HongKong airport to Macau
Hi guys, I will be arriving at HKIA 1pm
9 Adults (7 person 55-70 years old) n 2A + 1 child (5yo)
What is the best transportation (fast & reasonable price) from HKIA to Macau?
I called Turbojet, they have only 1 ferry per day at 12.45… i call Viator, they said better to take normal train about 2 hours.
Anyone has idea? Private chattering small van? Taxi? Or take turbojet from city?
Please advise
Thank you
Traveling from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to Macau with a group of 9 adults and 2 children requires balancing speed, convenience, and cost. There are several options to consider, including ferries, private transfers, and combinations of train and ferry.
Option 1: Direct Ferry from HKIA via SkyPier
- TurboJET operates ferries from SkyPier at HKIA to Macau. This is convenient because you don’t need to go into Hong Kong city first.
- Travel time: Approximately 55–60 minutes.
- Consideration: Check ferry schedules in advance. If your flight arrives at 1 pm, you may miss some afternoon ferries due to immigration and transfer times.
- Advantages: Fast and straightforward; suitable for travelers who prefer to stay airside without going into HK city.
- Disadvantages: Limited schedule and need to transfer to Macau city center upon arrival.
Option 2: Ferry from Hong Kong City (Tsim Sha Tsui or Sheung Wan)
- Take the Airport Express or taxi from HKIA to Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal (Sheung Wan) or China Ferry Terminal (Tsim Sha Tsui).
- Travel time to ferry terminal: About 30–40 minutes by Airport Express + shuttle/taxi.
- Ferry time to Macau: About 55–60 minutes.
- Advantages: More frequent ferries; flexibility in departure times.
- Disadvantages: Slightly more complicated transfer from airport to city ferry terminal.
Option 3: Private Van or Minibus Transfer
- Hire a private charter van or minibus directly from HKIA to Macau. Many companies offer cross-border private transfers that can accommodate your group size.
- Travel time: Approximately 1.5–2 hours, depending on border clearance at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.
- Advantages: Direct, door-to-door service; comfortable for elderly passengers and children; luggage-friendly.
- Disadvantages: More expensive than ferry; must pre-book online or via travel agency.
Option 4: Airport → Hong Kong → Zhuhai → Macau (via Train/Bus)
- Take the Airport Express to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, then board the Guangzhou–Macau high-speed train via Zhuhai.
- Travel time: Around 2–2.5 hours total.
- Advantages: Avoids ferry; comfortable for group travel.
- Disadvantages: Requires border clearance and train tickets; slightly complicated for first-time visitors.
Recommendation
For a group with elderly travelers and young children, the private minibus/van via Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is likely the most convenient and least stressful option, even if slightly more expensive. It avoids ferry schedule limitations and provides door-to-door service. If you prefer ferries and your arrival aligns with the ferry schedule, taking a ferry from either SkyPier at HKIA or Hong Kong city terminals is also feasible and efficient.
