Camping advice for March end!?

Hello... my friend and I are planning to come to SEDONA for the first time (march 31-apr4th).. we would love to camp in a safe location with full amenities like bathroom running water electricity...

We have our own tents.

Is there a good central location in this huge state where we can camp in a campground and still manage to drive around and visit one popular attraction... per day(crater, petrified forest and similar ones except GC)?

Camp in or away from sedona?

Hopefully in that location nighttime temperatures won't go below 55°.

Pls advice. Thx

Camping in Sedona and central Arizona at the end of March can be a wonderful experience, especially if you want to be close to natural attractions while enjoying full amenities. Sedona itself has a few developed campgrounds, but it is a small town and most sites are moderately priced with basic amenities. The key is to find a location that allows easy day trips to popular attractions while providing comfort like bathrooms, running water, and electricity.

For your March 31–April 4 visit, consider these options:

  • Rancho Sedona RV Park: Centrally located in West Sedona, this campground offers full hookups, bathrooms, and showers. It’s convenient for driving to Red Rock State Park and other local attractions. Nighttime temperatures are usually mild, often above 55°F by late March.
  • Verde Valley RV & Campground (near Cottonwood): About 20 minutes south of Sedona, this site provides full amenities, a quiet location, and good access to day trips including Tuzigoot National Monument, Montezuma Castle, and the Verde Valley wineries. It’s a convenient base for exploring northern Arizona.
  • Dead Horse Ranch State Park (Cottonwood): A state park with tent camping, bathrooms, water, and electricity at some sites. Offers picnic areas and walking trails, and is within driving distance to Sedona and other attractions in central Arizona. Night temperatures are generally above 50°F in March.

For day trips to popular attractions from this central area:

  • Petrified Forest National Park: About a 3.5–4 hour drive from Sedona/Cottonwood. You can do a scenic drive through the park, stopping at viewpoints.
  • Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument: About 1.5–2 hours from Sedona, great for a morning or afternoon visit.
  • Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot National Monuments: Near Cottonwood, perfect for shorter half-day trips.
  • Red Rock State Park & Bell Rock/Cathedral Rock: Near Sedona, easy access for short hikes or sightseeing without venturing far from your campground.

Camping in or near Sedona gives you the advantage of being centrally located for multiple day trips while enjoying comfort. Sedona campgrounds are limited in number, so early reservations are recommended. March temperatures at night can still dip slightly below 55°F, especially in higher elevations, so bring a warm sleeping bag and layers.

In summary, staying in Sedona or just south in Cottonwood/Verde Valley allows easy access to central Arizona attractions, provides campgrounds with full amenities, and keeps driving times manageable for day trips. You can comfortably plan one major excursion per day while returning to a convenient, safe camping spot in the evening.
