Hampton Inn S Gulfview - nearby recommendation

Hi! We’re making a brief unexpected trip to Clearwater this week. Grandma, dtr and 8 yo granddaughter.

Plan is for a shelling trip out of Tarpon Springs Friday afternoon then check in at our hotel Hampton Inn and Suites on S Gulfview.

Saturday plan to go shelling on Caladesi, hope to be on the first ferry over.

Any recommendations for something fun Fri eve or Saturday afternoon, before heading back to Lakeland? I’m coming down for a few days, from Buffalo- want to maximize outdoor time.

Thank you!!!

Great — staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites on S Gulfview gives you really nice access to Clearwater’s best outdoor stuff. With your shelling plans already in place, here are some fun ideas for Friday evening and Saturday afternoon that make the most of your time with Grandma and your granddaughter.

Friday Evening Ideas:

  • Pier 60 Sunset Celebration — A Clearwater classic. Starting a couple of hours before sunset, the pier comes alive with street performers, artisans, live music, and food vendors.
  • Outdoor Movie Night at Pier 60 — On Friday (and Saturday) evenings around dusk, Clearwater shows free, family-friendly films on the lawn by Pier 60. Bring a blanket or low chairs.
  • Dolphin or Pirate Cruise — For a memorable evening on the water, consider a sunset cruise or a pirate-themed adventure. Captain Memo’s Pirate Cruise is particularly fun for kids.

Saturday Afternoon Ideas:

  • Caladesi Island State Park — Since you're already planning to shell here, consider adding some nature time: birding, kayaking, or a walk through the mangroves.
  • Cliff Stephens Park — A great low-key spot for a nature break: it has walking trails, picnic areas, and a playground; plus nature views.
  • Ream Wilson Clearwater Trail — If you want a relaxing walk or bike ride, this pedestrian and bike trail spans 13 miles, connecting to parks and offering nature and scenic views.
  • Visit Clearwater Marine Aquarium — Educational and fun, especially with an 8-year-old: learn about rescued dolphins and other marine life.

Dining / Evening Meal Suggestions:

  • Grab dinner near Pier 60 — There are snack vendors, plus restaurants a short walk away on Clearwater Beach.
  • Have a picnic at Cliff Stephens Park — Pack up food and enjoy a relaxing park meal with shade and calm.

Bonus Tips:

  • Bring bug spray and sunscreen — especially for the park or trail stops.
  • Reserve the pirate or sunset cruise in advance; evening tours can fill up.
  • Go to Pier 60 early for a good spot for the sunset celebration or movie — the area can get lively.

With these ideas, you’ll get a lovely mix of beach, nature, and local flavor — perfect for a relaxed but memorable getaway with three generations. Have a wonderful trip! 😊
