Rise of the Resistance at Rope Drop?

Has anyone tried this? This will be our granddaughter’s first “brave enough” visit and Rise is a mist do. I’m trying to decide if I can get by without a Lightning Lane. We’ll only have four days so I’m trying to cram everything in. I'm not loving this restricted to school holidays thing!

Thanks!

Riding *Rise of the Resistance* at rope drop is definitely a strategy many guests use, especially if they are trying to minimize wait times during busy periods like school holidays. Here are some insights to help you decide whether you can manage without purchasing a Lightning Lane:

Rope Drop Strategy: Rope drop refers to the moment the park officially opens, and it’s often when the lines are the shortest for popular rides like *Rise of the Resistance*. If you arrive early and head straight to Galaxy’s Edge, you can often ride *Rise of the Resistance* with a much shorter wait (usually 30–45 minutes or even less, depending on the crowd level). However, keep in mind that during peak times like school holidays, this ride can get crowded quickly, and the line may grow long within the first 30–60 minutes of the park opening.

Lightning Lane vs. Standby: If you're trying to avoid purchasing the Lightning Lane (either because of cost or availability), rope dropping *Rise of the Resistance* can still be a good strategy, but you’ll want to be there at the very beginning of the day. Keep in mind that while the wait may be shorter at rope drop, it can still be significant as the day progresses. If you’re on a tight schedule and want to guarantee a quick experience, the Lightning Lane might be worth considering, especially if you don’t want to risk a long wait during the day.

  • Advantages of Rope Drop: - Shorter waits (often under 45 minutes). - You get to experience this iconic ride early, leaving the rest of your day open for other attractions. - No additional cost for Lightning Lane.
  • Challenges of Rope Drop: - Requires early arrival to the park, so be prepared to get there right at opening. - Depending on how crowded the park is, the line could still be longer than expected, especially for popular rides like *Rise of the Resistance*. - It’s a bit of a rush to get straight to that ride, and if you’re trying to accommodate a young child, it could be a bit stressful.

Other Tips for Success: - Arrive Early: Get there at least 30–45 minutes before park opening to ensure you're near the front of the line for rope drop. - Mobile App for Wait Times: Keep an eye on the wait times via the Disney app. If the wait gets longer than expected after rope drop, you may want to reconsider your approach. - Prioritize the Ride: Since this will be your granddaughter's first visit and *Rise of the Resistance* is a must-do, make sure to prioritize it at the start of the day. If you’re worried about the line getting too long, getting there at rope drop is your best chance.

Alternative Strategies: If you find that the line is too long for comfort even at rope drop, consider using the Lightning Lane if available (or using Genie+ if you purchase it), or you could try to go later in the afternoon when crowds start to thin out a bit. But, in general, rope drop is your best bet to avoid waiting too long.

Ultimately, if you're visiting during a busy time like school holidays, it might be wise to consider the Lightning Lane for *Rise of the Resistance* to ensure you can experience it with minimal hassle. However, if you want to save the extra cost and you're okay with getting up early, rope drop is definitely an effective strategy!
