How doable is it?

Staying in Phoenix for 2 nights, already scheduled city walking tour for 2 hours, finished at 6 pm. My plan to go to Desert Botanical garden after that. the lights there every day or only on weekend? Camera allowed or not? Tickets --to buy in advance?

Thank you so much for your help.

Visiting the Desert Botanical Garden (DBG) in Phoenix after your city walking tour is quite doable, especially if your walking tour ends around 6 pm. The Garden offers a beautiful experience in the evening, particularly during their seasonal light displays.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The "Las Noches de las Luminarias" event is the most famous light display, typically held only on select evenings, usually around the holiday season in late November to December. The general light displays outside of this event are not daily, so check the garden’s calendar for the exact dates during your visit.
  • Regular evening hours vary by season, but the Garden often stays open until 8 pm or later during special events. On standard days, the Garden usually closes around 8 pm in spring/summer and earlier in fall/winter.
  • Photography is allowed, including cameras and smartphones. Tripods are usually not permitted unless part of a special photography program, so plan accordingly.
  • Tickets can be purchased in advance online, which is recommended if you plan to visit during an event or peak evening hours. This ensures you have entry and avoids waiting in line.

Additional tips:

  • Plan your timing so you have enough light to enjoy the garden paths before dusk, and allow extra time if you want to photograph the desert plants and landscape in the softer evening light.
  • If attending a special lights event, consider arriving early to explore the garden before the main crowd and enjoy the display without feeling rushed.
  • Comfortable shoes and a light jacket are recommended in the evening, as desert temperatures can drop after sunset, even in Phoenix.

Overall, scheduling the Desert Botanical Garden after your walking tour is very doable, just verify the light display schedule for your dates and purchase tickets in advance for a smooth experience.
