Help with parking/permits?

Coming to Arizona next month with our 3 kids for seeing break. Any tips for parking or hiking permits/passes?

These are the places we’re going

Chapel of the Holy Cross - I’ve heard this one is sometimes just as good to drive by and view from main road vs trying to park and actually go in?

Bell Rock

Devils Bridge - early morning - but how early do we need to go??

Pink Jeep Tours - need to find street parking?

Antrlope Canyon X - the hiking permit is included in our ticket price so assuming we’re all set?

Grand Canyon - staying inside the park at Yavapai Lodge so we plan to walk to the rim, not concerned about parking?

Any other “need to know” tips for these locations is greatly appreciated!

Visiting Arizona with kids in spring break is exciting, but parking and permits can be tricky at popular sites. Here’s a detailed guide for each of your planned stops:

Chapel of the Holy Cross: Parking is very limited and the lot fills up quickly, especially mid-morning and afternoons. Many visitors find it just as rewarding to view the chapel from the road for a photo, especially with kids, if you want to avoid the stress of finding a spot.

Bell Rock: There is a small parking area at the trailhead, but it can get crowded. Arriving early in the morning or later in the afternoon helps. Street parking along the access roads is limited, so plan to arrive before 9 am for easier parking.

Devil’s Bridge: Parking near the trailhead fills very early. For a March or April visit, arriving around sunrise (or shortly after) is recommended to secure a spot. There is no formal parking lot beyond the small pull-offs near the trailhead, so early arrival is key.

Pink Jeep Tours: Tours usually depart from their designated headquarters in Sedona. There is generally parking at the tour location, but street parking may be limited. Confirm with your tour provider; they often provide guidance for drop-off or parking nearby.

Antelope Canyon X: Since your ticket includes the hiking permit, you are good to go. Make sure to arrive on time for your scheduled tour, as late arrivals can be delayed or not allowed in. No extra permit or parking fees are needed beyond your ticket.

Grand Canyon (South Rim, Yavapai Lodge): Since you’re staying inside the park and walking to the rim, parking won’t be an issue. Just plan for potential crowds at viewpoints and shuttle bus wait times if using shuttles to reach other areas of the rim.

Additional tips and “need to know” items:

  • Bring plenty of water and snacks for kids at all sites.
  • Most hiking trails in Sedona are short but can be rocky; kids’ shoes with good grip are recommended.
  • Check the weather and trail conditions, especially at Devil’s Bridge and Bell Rock; spring can have muddy spots.
  • For busy times, consider starting early in the morning to avoid crowds at popular viewpoints.
  • Leave no trace: pack out what you bring in, as trash bins are limited in some areas.

With a little planning, you can enjoy all these highlights without excessive parking stress or permit issues. Early arrival and confirming tour details ahead of time will make your trip smooth and enjoyable for the family.
