How to buy advance ticket Forbidden City
I have the Chinese website for advance tickets (in English). Tried to buy tickets on my computer, did not work. Are there any phone apps like Whats App needed to buy tickets for Forbidden City. I don't think we'll have WiFi once in China. And we don't have WhatApp. Why doesn't this English website work? What are our chances of getting in if we come same day at 8 am and get in line? We are over 60, I understand there is a shorter line for Seniors, is that true? Also, can you buy tickets for morning and afternoon both? We want to spend the day there. Thanks for your advice!
Buying tickets for the Forbidden City (Palace Museum) in advance can be a bit tricky, especially for international visitors. Here’s a detailed guide to help you navigate the process.
Online Advance Tickets:
- The official Palace Museum website allows advance ticket purchases, but it sometimes has issues for non-Chinese users, especially with foreign credit cards and verification steps.
- Most bookings require a Chinese phone number for verification via SMS. Without a Chinese number, some payment methods may not work.
- There is no official WhatsApp integration; WhatsApp is not needed for official ticketing.
Mobile Apps:
- Some visitors use third-party apps like WeChat or Alipay, which also require Chinese phone numbers. WeChat’s official mini-programs can book tickets easily, but again, a local number is often needed.
- If you cannot use these apps, you may consider asking a local friend or a hotel concierge in Beijing to help book tickets in advance on your behalf.
Same-Day Tickets:
- Tickets are limited and can sell out, especially in peak tourist seasons (spring and autumn). Arriving at 8 am gives you a fair chance, but it is not guaranteed.
- Seniors aged 60+ usually have a shorter queue for ticket collection, but this is only for showing your ID at the ticket office; it does not guarantee immediate entry if tickets are sold out online.
- You can buy tickets for both morning and afternoon sessions on the same day if tickets are available. Each session has its own quota.
Tips:
- Check the Palace Museum website a few days in advance to see if morning tickets are sold out, and consider booking the afternoon session if available.
- Bring your passport for ticket purchase and entry; it is required for ID verification.
- If you have difficulty with online booking, consider joining a reputable local tour that includes entrance tickets. Many tours can secure tickets in advance for you.
- Arriving early increases your chances for same-day tickets, especially on weekdays outside of Chinese public holidays.
In summary, online advance purchase is ideal but may require a Chinese phone number or third-party help. Same-day purchase is possible but not guaranteed, and seniors do have a shorter line for ticket collection. Planning ahead and arriving early will maximize your chances of a full-day visit.
