Early mornings in DT Los Angeles
I will be in Los Angeles for a conference that begins every day at 9am. Staying at the JW Marriott. Since I won't have free time during the day, I wanted to know what my options are for sightseeing between the hours of 6am and 8:30am
Thank you.
Staying at the JW Marriott in downtown Los Angeles gives you a convenient location to explore some sights even during early mornings before your conference. While many attractions open later in the day, there are still several activities and spots that are accessible between 6am and 8:30am.
Here are some options:
- Morning Walks in Downtown: Downtown LA has several pedestrian-friendly streets and neighborhoods perfect for an early stroll. You can explore:
- Pershing Square and surrounding areas
- The Historic Core with old theaters and architecture along Broadway
- Spring Street and the Financial District’s early morning quiet
- Grand Central Market: While most vendors open around 8am, the area is lively and photogenic, and you can grab a quick breakfast or coffee from early-opening cafes nearby.
- The Broad / Walt Disney Concert Hall area: You can walk around the exterior of The Broad and the striking Walt Disney Concert Hall. The architecture and public plazas are open early and perfect for photos and a light stroll.
- Early Morning Coffee Spots: Many cafes open early and are good for breakfast or people-watching:
- Blue Bottle Coffee in Grand Central Market (opens around 7am)
- Urth Caffé in downtown (around 7am)
- Café Gratitude (around 7am)
- Fitness / Jogging Options: If you enjoy a morning workout, you could do a short jog along the LA River Bike Path or through nearby streets of the Arts District.
- Views and Photography: Head to Bunker Hill or the steps around City Hall for early morning skyline views and quiet streets for photography before the city fully wakes up.
Tips:
- Bring comfortable shoes as sidewalks and streets can be uneven in older parts of downtown.
- Traffic is light early in the morning, so if you want to explore slightly further, a short drive to Little Tokyo or the Arts District is easy.
- Check opening hours if you plan to enter cafes or markets, as some open closer to 7–8am.
Overall, early mornings in downtown LA are great for walking tours, architecture photography, coffee stops, and quiet exploration before the conference starts. The JW Marriott location is central, so everything listed is within a short walk or drive.
