Please help me plan a 3-4 day itinerary

Hello All - I will be traveling from Flagstaff to Sedona on Apr 18 with wife and two kids 8 and 11 and staying until evening of Apr 21. Can you help us plan this trip? Some of the activities of interest as well as places I know from previous trip are as follows - airport mesa, chapel of the holy cross, Tlaqupaque, Jerome, Montezuma castle. I would like us to explore some good kid friendly hikes, some scenic drives, any other sightseeing spots as well as a UTV rental with guided maps. My wife and I have done pink jeep tour before and was thinking of doing something different this time by renting a UTV for the family. Can you please help me plan this trip in a day by day manner?

Here’s a suggested 3-4 day family-friendly itinerary for your Sedona trip from Flagstaff, balancing kid-friendly hikes, scenic drives, sightseeing, and a UTV adventure:

Day 1 – Arrival and Scenic Overview

  • Drive from Flagstaff to Sedona in the morning (~45 minutes).
  • Check into your hotel or vacation rental.
  • Visit Airport Mesa for panoramic views of Sedona’s red rocks – a short and easy hike suitable for kids.
  • Drive along the Red Rock Scenic Byway (SR 179) for iconic photo stops.
  • Evening: Dinner in Sedona Uptown and a stroll around the shops.

Day 2 – Cultural and Historical Exploration

  • Morning: Visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross – short walks around the area with great views.
  • Head to Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village – explore shops, art galleries, and enjoy lunch.
  • Afternoon: Drive to Montezuma Castle National Monument – easy trails and informative stops about Native American history.
  • Optional: Quick visit to nearby Montezuma Well if time permits.
  • Evening: Relax at hotel or grab casual dinner in town.

Day 3 – Adventure Day with UTV

  • Morning: Book a guided UTV tour for your family. Popular kid-friendly trails include Broken Arrow, Chuckwagon Trail, or Soldier Pass, depending on your UTV rental provider’s recommendations.
  • Lunch: Picnic or casual dining in Sedona.
  • Afternoon: Hike the Bell Rock Trail or Cathedral Rock Trail – choose sections appropriate for kids; these offer stunning red rock views.
  • Evening: Sunset viewpoint at Red Rock Crossing / Crescent Moon Picnic Area – great for family photos.

Day 4 – Day Trip to Jerome and Departure

  • Morning: Drive to Jerome – explore the historic mining town, galleries, and unique shops.
  • Optional stop: Verde Canyon Railroad for a scenic train ride if time allows.
  • Return to Sedona by early afternoon to pick up bags and start drive back to Flagstaff or onward destination.

Additional Tips:

  • Start hikes early to avoid midday heat, even in April.
  • Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and hats for the kids.
  • UTV tours usually require reservations – book in advance.
  • Consider short detours to viewpoints like Chimney Rock or Boynton Canyon for quick scenic stops.
  • If your family enjoys stargazing, Sedona’s night sky is spectacular; some hotels or tours offer evening programs.

This itinerary balances adventure, scenic views, and cultural experiences while keeping the kids engaged without feeling rushed.
