Car rental pick up - South Beach or MIA
Hi
We're booking a rental car from Miami one way to Orlando (we're using Brightline to get to Miami on the way out). We're using a UK agent and they offer either South Beach or airport collection, the prices are the same. Which is the easiest location to get to and out from?
We're planning to stay downtown and will be leaving Miami for the Keys when we've picked the car up so am wondering if the airport pick up would make it easier to get out of the city.
Thanks
For your situation, both pick-up locations—South Beach and Miami International Airport (MIA)—have their pros and cons. Here's a breakdown to help you decide which option might be easier for getting out of the city:
- South Beach Pick-Up:
- If you're staying downtown, picking up your rental in South Beach could be convenient as it might be closer to where you're staying. However, the traffic in and around South Beach can be challenging, especially during peak hours or weekends.
- You may need to navigate some of the busy streets in the South Beach area to get out, which could take more time depending on traffic.
- After picking up the car, you’ll have to deal with city traffic as you leave South Beach and head toward the Keys or your next destination, which can be a bit slower.
- Miami International Airport (MIA) Pick-Up:
- The airport location is likely to be more straightforward if you are heading out of the city. From MIA, you can easily get onto major highways like the 836 West and the Florida Turnpike, which would make your exit to the Keys or Orlando much quicker.
- There is usually less traffic around the airport compared to the South Beach area, especially when heading west or south. If you plan to leave the city directly, this could save you some time.
- If you’re coming from downtown, it’s a short drive to MIA (about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic), but you’ll avoid the potential hassle of navigating through the dense South Beach area.
Given that you're planning to head toward the Keys, the Miami International Airport (MIA) pick-up might be the best choice for a smoother exit. It will give you quicker access to the highways and avoid the busy streets of South Beach, allowing you to get on your way with less hassle.
Ultimately, if you're looking for the most straightforward route and ease of getting out of the city, the airport pick-up would likely be the better choice, especially if you're planning to hit the road right after picking up the car.
