Silver Beach Towers, The Islander or Jetty East?

Planning a family trip sometime from mid June to mid July. Any input on these 3 locations? Looks like they are all fairly similar but prices vary greatly and I can’t find reviews on some of the 2 bedroom units.

Also, is mid July too iffy weather wise? I don’t know when the tropical storms historically starting blowing in but end of July through August might be cutting it close for a trip. TIA!

Hi there,

All three of the properties you’re considering—Silver Beach Towers, The Islander, and Jetty East—are great choices for a family trip in Destin, but they each have their own features and offerings that could influence your decision. Here’s a comparison of each property based on common factors like location, amenities, and guest feedback:

  • Silver Beach Towers - This is a more upscale option with spacious two-bedroom units and excellent views of the Gulf. It’s located on the beach, so you have easy access to the sand, and many of the units feature balconies with views. The property has a nice pool area, hot tubs, and a well-maintained complex. It’s a bit more expensive, but the amenities and location tend to justify the cost for many guests. Reviews for the property are generally positive, although some mention that the units can vary in terms of furnishings and updates.
  • The Islander - This property is another good choice, with a more family-friendly vibe and a range of amenities such as tennis courts, a pool, and beachfront access. The units are usually a bit older compared to Silver Beach Towers, but the price point can be more attractive. The location is great—close to restaurants and attractions, yet still situated on a quieter stretch of beach. Reviews are generally positive, though some guests mention the need for updates in certain units. However, the value for money is a big selling point for The Islander.
  • Jetty East - Located near Destin Harbor, Jetty East is a great spot for those who want to be near the action but also enjoy a quieter beach experience. It’s a bit further away from the main tourist areas, which could be a plus or minus depending on what you want. The property features a more laid-back, relaxed atmosphere with a pool, beach access, and nice views. Prices can vary, but it’s generally considered a more affordable option compared to Silver Beach Towers. Some units may need a refresh, but overall it offers good value for families. The location near the jetty is great for those who enjoy watching boats and water activities.

As for the weather in mid-July, it’s true that the summer months in Florida can bring thunderstorms and the beginning of hurricane season, which officially runs from June through November. However, mid-July is still a decent time to visit, and tropical storms don’t always hit right away. Typically, the weather will be hot and humid with an increased chance of afternoon showers. If you’re concerned about tropical storms, it's a good idea to keep an eye on weather reports closer to your trip and have a backup plan for indoor activities in case of rain.

In summary:

  • If you want a more upscale experience with great views and amenities, Silver Beach Towers is your best bet.
  • If you’re looking for a solid, family-friendly option with good value and beach access, The Islander is a great choice.
  • If you prefer a quieter, more relaxed setting with a good location near the harbor, Jetty East is a nice option to consider.

Mid-July isn’t too bad for weather, but be prepared for hot and humid conditions, and always keep an eye on the forecast for any unexpected storms. Have a great trip!
