Budget Hotel Choices - July

Hi,

Looking at taking advantage of the 4 day ticket for the 70th anniversary. Trip would be my husband and I, 30s. Possible dates either 5-10 July or 26-31 July.

This is a bit of a budget trip, so looking to keep costs low, less than $150 a night, ideally around $100 as this is a 5 night stay.

So far I have the choice of Alamo Inn and Motel 6 Maingate.

Alamo is $110 a night or so, not sure I’m keen on the location, is it quicker to walk through Downtown Disney to get to the parks or would walking east on Katella up Harbor be better ? Entering on Harbor is the side I’m used to. Is Downtown Disney security busier? I don’t really wanna use the monorail as I like entering on Main St. I also read they have secret codes for discounted stays so maybe I need to find those. Just not sure of their location and dining options.

Motel 6 is only $88 a night or something. I’ve previously stayed at the Candlewood before so kinda like this location as it’s right by some dining options like California Fish Grill and a Starbucks there for the coffee in the morning. I know DTD has a Starbucks but prices are higher, I believe you can do mobile order though. I know Motel 6 would be a very basic motel but the reviews don’t seem bad, just not sure how keen I am staying there for 5 nights.

I’m waiting to see if Candlewood maybe has an Easter sale as they our coming out $180 a night rn.

Thoughts? options?

Thank you

For a budget trip to Disneyland during the 70th anniversary in July, finding a balance between cost, convenience, and comfort is key. Given your preferences—entering Disneyland on Main Street, staying under $150 per night, and having dining options nearby—here is a detailed look at your options and considerations.

Hotel Choices:

  • Alamo Inn: Priced around $110 per night, it is slightly further from the Harbor Boulevard entrance compared to some other off-property hotels. Walking to Disneyland via Downtown Disney is possible, but security lines can be busier at the Downtown Disney entrance during peak hours, especially during special events like the 70th anniversary. If you want the classic Main Street entrance experience, walking east on Katella up Harbor may be a better choice, as it directly leads to the main gates. Dining options near Alamo Inn are limited, so plan for meals elsewhere or in Downtown Disney.
  • Motel 6 Maingate: At approximately $88 per night, it is very budget-friendly and located near Katella and Harbor, with plenty of dining options within walking distance, including California Fish Grill and Starbucks. Rooms are basic, but if you don’t mind simplicity, this can be a practical choice for a five-night stay. You’ll have the convenience of entering Disneyland on Main Street without the extra walk through Downtown Disney, which may be preferable for your first visit.
  • Candlewood Suites: Currently around $180 per night, it is slightly above your budget. The location is familiar to you and convenient for dining and coffee. If they offer a promotion or discount, it could be worth considering for comfort, especially for a longer stay like five nights. Candlewood offers suites with kitchens, which can help save on dining costs during your trip.

Additional Considerations:

  • Check for “secret codes” or online deals on each hotel’s official website—AAA, AARP, or special seasonal promotions can sometimes reduce nightly rates.
  • If you prioritize entering Disneyland on Main Street and avoiding busy Downtown Disney security, staying on or near Harbor Boulevard is more convenient than Alamo Inn.
  • Consider transportation options: Walking from the Harbor side is straightforward and keeps you close to multiple dining options. If you stay near Downtown Disney, you may have to navigate larger crowds, particularly in the morning and evening.
  • For budget-conscious trips, Motel 6 offers the lowest rate and nearby dining, but expect minimal amenities. If comfort for five nights is a priority, stretching to Candlewood with a sale or promotion could be worthwhile.

Summary Recommendation:

  • For strict budget and convenience to the Main Street entrance: Motel 6 Maingate is a solid choice.
  • For a balance of comfort, proximity, and slightly higher budget flexibility: Keep an eye on Candlewood Suites for potential discounts.
  • Alamo Inn is okay, but for first-time visitors wanting the Main Street entrance experience, it may be slightly less convenient and limited in dining options.

In conclusion, if minimizing costs is your top priority, Motel 6 is practical and convenient. If a few extra dollars per night improve comfort and amenities, wait to see if Candlewood offers a promotion. Alamo Inn may be less ideal unless you specifically want that location or it has a special rate.
