Accommodation help please

We are a senior married Australian couple dropping by for a couple of nights before boarding a cruise ship. We’re looking for help with accommodation that might suit us. We like the sound of Beverly Grove to stay as helpful people are saying it’s safe around there but we also like to go, pull up a stool and sit at a bar and enjoy a couple of glasses of good quality wine. We are young at heart, sociable and are happy to have conversations with others if they’re open to it. 😀 We originally had a budget of US$200-$300 per night (we will require 2 nights) but have decided to up the ante on this to around US$400 - $450 in order to give us a better chance of securing a relatively “nice” hotel. Can the friendly TA people help with recommendations of hotels where we could walk to some sights, a bar and a few places to have a decent feed (pub food is fine). If the hotel has its own bar that could be a plus but not absolutely necessary. We will be getting off a plane and will have to get some transport to the hotel so a shuttle would be helpful too but again, not absolutely necessary as we can get in an Uber if we need to. We will also need to get to the port to board the ship once we leave the hotel. Another Uber I'm thinking. Our dates for the hotel are arriving 3 October and departing 5 October. Thank you so much in anticipation of your help.

For a short stay in Los Angeles before boarding a cruise, Beverly Grove is an excellent choice. It is generally safe, central to many attractions, and has a good selection of restaurants and wine bars within walking distance or a short ride away.

Given your budget of US$400–450 per night and preference for a sociable atmosphere with a bar or nearby dining, here are some hotel recommendations:

  • The Kimpton La Peer Hotel – Located in West Hollywood, this hotel has a stylish bar and restaurant, excellent wine selection, and a welcoming social atmosphere. It’s within walking distance to Melrose Avenue’s cafes and shops. Shuttle service isn’t provided, but Uber is easy and quick from LAX.
  • The London West Hollywood – Offers luxury suites, an on-site bar, and a rooftop terrace with stunning city views. It’s friendly, sociable, and close to great dining options. Again, airport transfers are typically via Uber or private car.
  • Hotel Wilshire, a Kimpton Hotel – Centrally located with a comfortable, social lobby bar, and walking distance to Beverly Grove restaurants. Good service and friendly staff make it easy to strike up conversations.

If you’re open to slightly nearby neighborhoods, West Hollywood proper or the Sunset Strip area has more bars and casual dining while still being safe and accessible.

Regarding transport to the cruise port (likely Long Beach or San Pedro):

  • Uber or Lyft is the most straightforward option for a 40–50 minute ride depending on traffic.
  • Some hotels can help arrange private airport-style transfers, which you could inquire about at booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Book early as October can start getting busy with fall travel and events.
  • Ask the hotel concierge for nearby wine bars with seating at the bar if you want to chat with locals.
  • Consider afternoon arrival so you can relax at the hotel bar before exploring the neighborhood.

Overall, these hotels provide a safe, sociable environment with quality bars and dining nearby, and your budget gives you access to comfortable and stylish accommodations in the Beverly Grove/West Hollywood area.
