Overnight Layover
Hi there,
I have 14 hour overnight layover in Hongkong, and planning to stay at Regala Skycity Hotel. I reach HK at 8Pm and leave 10.45 am the following day. I know its not much, but what are some of the exploring possibilities?
Is there any waterfront parks/ places to walk near the hotel or the airport in the morning may be? I saw some hotels have sea view so curious!
Finally, is this hotel near to any shopping mall or restaurants? I see that its connected to Asia world expo, does that mean it may have some good dining options nearby?
Thanks in advance!
With a 14-hour overnight layover in Hong Kong and a stay at Regala Skycity Hotel, you have limited time, but there are some options to make the most of your brief stay. The hotel is conveniently located near Hong Kong International Airport and connected to AsiaWorld-Expo.
Evening Arrival Options (after 8 PM):
- Since you arrive in the evening, your options for sightseeing are limited. The hotel itself offers sea views from some rooms, so you can enjoy a relaxing evening looking out over the airport runways and nearby waters.
- AsiaWorld-Expo has a few dining options, including cafes and casual restaurants. While not a large shopping area, it provides convenient meals without having to travel far.
- If you want to stretch your legs, you can walk around the airport’s open areas or the nearby SkyPlaza, which has shops and restaurants that stay open late, though most retail shops may close by 10 PM.
Morning Options (before 10:45 AM departure):
- There are waterfront areas near the airport suitable for a short morning walk. The North Lantau Coastal area, around the airport runway and hotel vicinity, provides a view of the sea and planes taking off, which can be quite scenic.
- The hotel itself may offer direct access or walking paths along the seafront for a quick stroll before breakfast.
- You can also explore the breakfast options at Regala Skycity or in nearby AsiaWorld-Expo before heading back to the airport for your next flight.
Shopping and Dining Near the Hotel:
- AsiaWorld-Expo is connected to the hotel and includes several casual and mid-range dining options. While it’s not a full-scale shopping mall, it has convenience stores and a few retail outlets.
- If you prefer a larger shopping experience, you would need to take a taxi or the airport express train to Tung Chung or Hong Kong Island, but given your short layover, staying local is more practical.
In summary, with a late evening arrival and early morning departure, the best options are to enjoy the hotel amenities, the sea view, a short walk along the nearby coastal area, and casual dining at AsiaWorld-Expo. Trying to travel far into the city is not recommended due to limited time and early morning check-in requirements at the airport.
