How long for Victoria Peak
How long should I allow for Victoria Peak, taking the tram both ways with the Ruby Pass?
Am planning to head up in the morning, and need to be back down at Central MTR by mid afternoon (around 2pm) in order to get to the next activity. Will probably have a coffee or drink up there but not lunch. Planning to do the loop walk.
Any tips on what I should do so I can ensure I can definitely get to Central MTR around 2pm - I don't want to be stuck up there unable to get down in a timely way due to queues or anything else. Thank you.
Visiting Victoria Peak using the Peak Tram and Ruby Pass is generally straightforward, but planning your timing is key to ensure you’re back at Central MTR by 2pm. Allow yourself a comfortable buffer for queues, walking, and enjoying the views.
Here’s a suggested breakdown:
- Tram queues: Even with the Ruby Pass, there can be a short wait, especially in the morning peak hours. Allow 15–30 minutes for boarding, depending on crowd levels.
- Ascent via Peak Tram: The ride itself takes about 7–10 minutes one way.
- Loop walk: The Peak Circle Walk is approximately 3.5 km and usually takes 45–60 minutes at a leisurely pace, with stops for photos and viewpoints.
- Coffee or drink: Plan around 20–30 minutes for a light refreshment at one of the cafes at the Peak.
- Descent: Peak Tram down takes another 7–10 minutes, plus potential wait time. Again, budget 15–30 minutes for queues.
Overall, a morning visit can comfortably fit within 2–2.5 hours if you start around 9–9:30am and move efficiently:
- 9:00–9:30am: Arrive at Peak Tram Lower Terminus and use Ruby Pass to skip main queues.
- 9:30–9:40am: Tram ride up.
- 9:40–10:40am: Peak Circle Walk with short stops for photos.
- 10:40–11:10am: Coffee/drink break.
- 11:10–11:20am: Head back to tram station.
- 11:20–11:40am: Tram ride down and back to Central MTR.
Tips to ensure timely return:
- Arrive early to avoid the busiest crowds.
- Use the Ruby Pass for priority boarding to minimize wait time.
- Keep your walk and photo stops efficient; don’t linger too long at any single viewpoint if timing is critical.
- Monitor the tram queues; if they start to build, consider walking part of the descent on the walking paths, which can save a few minutes.
With this schedule, you should easily be back at Central MTR well before 2pm and have enjoyed a relaxed morning at Victoria Peak.
