My husband will be working in Beijing for approx 4 weeks this summer and I will be joining him on the last week. We will then go to Shanghai for approximately 6-8days. We have been to Beijing previously but not Shanghai. I am hoping that we get to get a sense of Shanghai but also get a chance to relax (nice beach or relaxing hotel with resort feel?? ) while we are there also as it will be an intense few weeks for my husband and also the heat can be draining. It does not appear that beaches are a ‘thing’ in that area of China. Would you kind folks have any suggestions please? Many thanks.
Shanghai is a bustling metropolis with a mix of modern skyscrapers, historic areas, and some quiet escapes. While it is true that Shanghai is not known for traditional beach destinations like those in southern China, there are still ways to enjoy relaxing environments and resort-style experiences during your 6-8 day stay.
Within the city, you can find several hotels that provide a resort-like feel with pools, spas, and gardens. These options allow you to unwind without leaving the city:
If you prefer a short trip outside Shanghai for a more nature-oriented or seaside experience, consider these nearby options:
Other tips for relaxing in Shanghai include seeking out quieter neighborhoods such as the Former French Concession for tree-lined streets, boutique cafes, and local parks. Spending early mornings or late afternoons walking along the Bund or the riverside promenade can also provide a peaceful experience without the city crowds.
Finally, consider timing your activities to avoid the peak heat of summer afternoons, and make use of hotel pools or spa treatments to stay refreshed during your stay.
