Burbank Airport - Fox Rental Car??? Legit???

I'm booking a trip with expedia for a trip to So Cal next month.

Flying into Burbank and they have a deal that when you book a hotel, a car is 'free' with it.

But the car rental place is called FOX. WTH is that? Never heard of it. Is this legit? anyone else use it?

FOX Rent A Car is a legitimate car rental company, though it’s not as widely known as major brands like Hertz, Avis, or Enterprise. They operate at several airports across the U.S., including Burbank, and often appear in package deals through travel sites like Expedia. Many travelers have used FOX successfully, but there are a few points to be aware of:

Legitimacy and reputation:

  • FOX Rent A Car is a real company, often offering competitive rates and “free” car deals bundled with hotels.
  • Customer experiences are mixed; some report smooth rentals, while others mention issues with upcharges, insurance sales, or vehicle availability. It’s not inherently unsafe, but extra attention is needed when booking and picking up the car.
  • Always read the fine print carefully, especially regarding insurance coverage, fuel policies, and extra fees that may not be included in the advertised price.

Practical tips for using FOX at Burbank:

  • Confirm the pickup location and shuttle arrangements in advance; airport rentals sometimes require a short shuttle ride.
  • Inspect the vehicle thoroughly before leaving the lot and document any existing damage to avoid disputes later.
  • Consider purchasing your own rental insurance through your credit card or personal auto policy rather than buying at the counter.

Alternatives:

  • If you’re uncomfortable with FOX, major rental companies at Burbank include Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, Budget, and Alamo. They may not be part of a “free with hotel” deal, but they have more widely recognized customer service reputations.
  • Compare prices for renting separately versus the Expedia package; sometimes the “free” car deal ends up with extra hidden fees.

In summary, FOX is legitimate and many travelers use it without problems, but you should approach the rental carefully, read all terms, and consider insurance options. If you prefer peace of mind and a well-known brand, you might opt to rent separately from a major company instead.
