Early arrival at 5am . What to do?
We arrive at 5am on a Saturday morning and pick up a RV at 3pm. We don’t know what to do from 5am-3pm
Is anything open at that early hour?
Please help. I will be so tired to walk aimlessly.
Arriving in Anchorage at 5am can be challenging since most shops, attractions, and restaurants open later in the morning. However, there are ways to make your time enjoyable without wandering aimlessly while tired.
Here are some suggestions for things to do and places to consider during the early morning hours:
- Grab a coffee or breakfast at an airport café if you don’t want to leave the airport immediately. Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport has a few options that open early.
- If you want to stretch your legs, consider a short drive or walk along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. It’s scenic, safe, and accessible early in the morning.
- Drive through downtown Anchorage to get a feel for the city. Early morning streets are quiet, and you can see local landmarks like the Anchorage Museum (although it won’t be open yet) or the Captain Cook Monument from outside.
- If you prefer indoor activities, check with nearby 24-hour diners or breakfast spots. Some local favorites may open around 6am or 7am, like Snow City Café, known for breakfast.
Other practical tips:
- Consider resting in a nearby hotel or lounge if you’re extremely tired. Some hotels offer day-use rooms or early check-in for a fee.
- Pack snacks or bring a travel pillow to rest in your vehicle if needed.
- Plan light sightseeing or a scenic drive to places like Earthquake Park or Lake Hood, which are accessible any time and provide a relaxing start before picking up your RV at 3pm.
Overall, Anchorage early mornings are quiet, but with a little planning, you can use this time to relax, enjoy scenic views, or have an early breakfast before starting your RV adventure.
