Help for clueless family

Hi! We are planning a last minute 3 night trip to LA this weekend. There is me,my husband amd our 17 year old daughter.

We'd like to tour Long Beach State, maybe do a studio tour at WB and Venice Beach? Any ideas where to stay? A quieter part of LA somewhere to not become overwhelmed? Or break the bank? Open to.oter tips ideas etc. Thanks from a clueless Mom

Planning a last-minute 3-night trip to LA with a teenager can feel overwhelming, but with a few key choices, you can balance sightseeing, fun, and relaxation. Since your interests include Long Beach State, a studio tour at Warner Bros., and Venice Beach, staying somewhere centrally located but relatively calm is ideal.

For accommodations, consider quieter neighborhoods that are still reasonably close to your activities:

  • West Los Angeles / Culver City: These areas are quieter than Hollywood or Downtown and provide reasonable access to Warner Bros. Studio and Venice Beach. Culver City has a pleasant downtown area with restaurants and cafes, and you can reach the beaches in 20–30 minutes.
  • Santa Monica: Slightly more touristy but still manageable, with beach access and a walkable downtown. A good choice if you want a beachside experience without the chaos of Venice proper.
  • Marina del Rey: A calm, residential area near the coast, good for driving out to Venice Beach, Santa Monica, and the Warner Bros. Studio. Offers a quieter stay and nice waterfront dining.

If budget is a concern, avoid staying in Downtown LA or Hollywood, as these areas are more congested and can be stressful for short trips.

Other practical tips and ideas:

  • Book the Warner Bros. Studio tour in advance; it’s popular and tickets can sell out, especially on weekends.
  • Consider visiting Venice Beach early in the morning to avoid crowds, enjoy the canals, and stroll along the quieter areas rather than the boardwalk at peak hours.
  • For Long Beach State, check if campus tours are available and if reservations are required. Parking is generally available on campus, but arriving early is recommended.
  • Car rental is very helpful in LA, as public transit is limited and attractions are spread out. Be mindful of traffic during morning and evening commutes.
  • Dining: explore small, casual spots in Culver City or Santa Monica for local flavor without waiting in long lines.
  • If time permits, consider a short drive along the Pacific Coast Highway to enjoy scenic views or a quick stop at Manhattan Beach or Hermosa Beach for a less crowded beach experience.

Overall, for a family trip with a teen, staying in a calmer neighborhood like Culver City, Marina del Rey, or Santa Monica offers balance: easy access to your must-see destinations, a manageable pace, and less stress compared to the tourist-heavy areas of Hollywood or Downtown LA.
