Advice on which Hotel

Hope that someone can help with this question.

Our TA has booked us into The Cityview hotel for our 3 night/day pre cruise stay.

On looking at where this hotel is situated I was wondering if it would be better to move to one that is near the water, eg. Holiday Inn Golden Mile or the likes.

Like the idea of Nathan Road and all that is available there being within walking distance

So I guess my question is, it better to base ourselves further up Nathan Road ( or just off it) or base ourselves nearer the waterfront.

Wouldn’t mind having a hotel slightly more upmarket than the Cityview.

The Cityview Hotel is located further up Nathan Road, in the Jordan area, which is convenient for access to shops, local restaurants, and some public transport, but it is not on the waterfront. Whether to move closer to the waterfront depends on the type of experience you want for your pre-cruise stay.

Considerations for Staying Further Up Nathan Road (Cityview Area):

  • More local and authentic Hong Kong experience with smaller shops, markets, and casual dining options within walking distance.
  • Typically quieter than the waterfront tourist-heavy areas.
  • Good access to MTR stations for easy transit across Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.

Considerations for Staying Near the Waterfront (e.g., Holiday Inn Golden Mile):

  • Closer to Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Victoria Harbour, and the Star Ferry—ideal for scenic views and iconic photo opportunities.
  • Better suited for a slightly more upscale and tourist-oriented stay, with luxury shopping malls and high-end restaurants nearby.
  • Evening light shows and harbor views are more accessible without long travel from the hotel.

Balance Between Nathan Road and Waterfront:

  • If walking distance to lively shopping and local food experiences is your priority, staying further up Nathan Road works well.
  • If your priority is scenic views, iconic attractions, and slightly more upscale hotels, a waterfront hotel like Holiday Inn Golden Mile or nearby options is preferable.
  • Both areas have good MTR connectivity, so getting around Hong Kong is convenient from either location.

In summary, for a pre-cruise stay, if you value convenience, authentic local streets, and being in a bustling but less tourist-heavy area, keeping your Cityview booking is fine. If you prefer a more scenic and upscale experience with easy access to the harbor, consider moving closer to Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront. Both choices have advantages, and your decision depends on whether local immersion or waterfront experience is your priority.
