🍲 Dinner at Shabu Sai – Hotpot Without the Frills, Just Comfort

We headed to Shabu Sai for dinner craving a good old Japanese hotpot feast, and it delivered exactly what we hoped for—simple, satisfying, and easy on the wallet.
The setup is super casual. You get to choose from several soup bases—we picked sukiyaki and spicy miso. Both were flavorful, though the miso packed more punch. The sukiyaki was on the sweeter side, great for cooking thin beef slices.
Meats were ordered à la carte from the staff and came out fast. We had pork belly, beef, and chicken—all sliced reasonably well for hotpot. The veggie and sides bar had plenty to choose from: cabbage, tofu, mushrooms, udon, and more. Everything looked fresh, nothing felt sad or wilted.
The place did get a little noisy as it filled up, but it’s that kind of vibe—families, friend groups, everyone in their own hotpot world. Service was friendly but brisk. They’ll remind you when your 70-minute dining time is almost up, which can feel a little rushed, but we managed fine.
It’s not fancy, but honestly, for around $27++ for dinner, it’s solid value. The food fills you up, the variety keeps it fun, and there’s something comforting about dunking meat into bubbling broth after a long day.
If you’re after a fuss-free shabu shabu experience without breaking the bank, Shabu Sai hits the spot.
