With the arrival of autumn's cooler weather, Kunming's West Mountain Park has welcomed many visitors. Kunming's West Mountain Scenic Area is a scenic forest park with rolling hills, lush forests, and chirping birds. The dense forest vegetation remains lush year-round. Ancient temples and pavilions such as Huating Temple, Taihua Temple, and Sanqing Pavilion are nestled amidst the dense forests and bamboo groves. The Longmen Grottoes are nestled atop towering cliffs, while a thousand-acre rock forest teems with the breathtaking peaks of Luohan Mountain. The magnificent scenery of lakes and mountains, combined with its rich history and rich culture, imbues West Mountain with a unique and mysterious charm, captivating visitors from both China and abroad.
From afar, the peaks of West Mountain resemble both a colossal sleeping Buddha and a reclining maiden, earning them the nicknames "Reclining Buddha Mountain" and "Sleeping Beauty." Kunming's West Mountain, along with Xiushan Mountain in Tonghai, Weishan Mountain in Weibao, and Jizu Mountain in Binchuan, are collectively known as the "Four Famous Scenic Mountains of Yunnan."
Huating Temple boasts a history of over 900 years and is the largest existing temple in Kunming. Within the temple, you'll find the Main Hall, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Guanyin Tower, the Bell Tower, the Rain Flower Terrace, and the Freeing Life Pond, among other ancient buildings.
Taihua Temple is located on the hillside of Taihua Mountain, the highest peak in the Western Hills. Surrounded by lush bamboo forests, the temple offers breathtaking views of the sunrise. At night, ascending the tower, you can gaze down at the lights of Kunming's countless homes and the shimmering Dianchi Lake, a truly captivating experience.
Sanqing Pavilion stands on a steep cliff, a cluster of pavilions dotted among the lush greenery. These pavilions, comprising nine stories and eleven wooden structures, include the Lingguan Hall and Laojun Hall. The Longmen Scenic Spot, characterized by its unique beauty, uniqueness, danger, and seclusion, is the most famous of Kunming's West Hills. It enjoys high international and domestic recognition and is a must-see for every visitor to Kunming. As the saying goes, "If you don't visit West Hill, you haven't visited Kunming, and if you don't visit Longmen, you've wasted your trip to West Hill."
A recent on-site visit also revealed that several new recreational activities have been added to the pedestrian trails of Xishan Park. Facilities currently under construction include a miniature train, a slide, a go-kart track, and jungle rafting. We believe everyone will soon be able to experience these new ways to play. With the autumn breeze still lingering, choose a cool morning and gather your active friends to hike Xishan Mountain to release some pent-up unhappiness and breathe in the fresh air. The stunning mountain scenery is set against the backdrop of Dianchi Lake. Bring your camera and take some beautiful photos, whether they're traditional or modern – this is a truly stunning autumn scene.
