September weather in Sedona?
Hi,
We're thinking of traveling to Sedona next September. I've seen average forecasts as well as historical data that vary widely - from highs of 80 to highs of 100 this year. Can someone shed some light on what we might be able to expect?
Thanks!
Traveling to Sedona in September is generally a great choice as the intense summer heat begins to taper off, but it can still be warm during the day. The weather is usually dry, with lower chances of rain compared to the monsoon season in July and August.
Typical Temperatures:
- Daytime highs: Generally range from the mid-80s to low 90s °F (29–34°C). Some unusually hot days can reach the mid-to-upper 90s °F (35–37°C).
- Nighttime lows: Usually in the mid-50s to low 60s °F (13–17°C), making mornings and evenings cooler and comfortable.
Other Weather Considerations:
- September can still have some monsoon remnants early in the month, but thunderstorms are less frequent than in July or August.
- Humidity is relatively low, and the air is usually dry, which is ideal for hiking.
- Sun exposure is strong, so sunscreen and hats are recommended, especially during midday hikes.
Travel Tips:
- Morning hikes are advisable to avoid the warmest part of the day.
- Pack layers: light clothing for the day and a warmer layer for cooler mornings and evenings.
- Check daily forecasts closer to your trip, as occasional heat waves can push daytime temperatures above 100°F (38°C), but these are less common than in June–August.
Overall, September in Sedona offers warm, mostly dry conditions with very comfortable evenings, making it ideal for hiking, sightseeing, and enjoying the red rock scenery.
