MSC Miami airport to cruise port transfers?

Good evening,

Would anyone know if MSC offers transfers if you've purchased your own flights? Or any reasonable alternatives...we are sailing mid February. Thank you!

MSC does offer airport–to–cruise–port transfers in Miami, but they are not automatically included when you book your own airfare. You can still purchase an MSC transfer separately—you just need to add it through MSC directly or through your travel agent. Transfers are typically sold as an add-on per person and must be arranged ahead of time, not at the airport.

With that said, MSC transfers are often more expensive than simply arranging your own transportation. Since you’re sailing in mid-February—a busy cruise month—booking something in advance is a good idea whether you use MSC or not. Miami airport and PortMiami are close to each other (about 15–20 minutes), so you have many good alternatives.

Below are your main options, with notes on convenience, cost, and how far in advance you’ll need to plan.

  • MSC Airport Transfer (Purchased Separately): You can buy a one-way or round-trip transfer from MSC even if you booked your own flights. You’ll need your cruise reservation number and flight details. MSC will assign you a pickup time and meeting point at MIA. This is the most “hands-off” option, but often more expensive per person than taking a taxi or rideshare.
  • Taxi from MIA to PortMiami: One of the easiest and most reliable options. Taxis have a flat fare between the airport and cruise port. You don’t need reservations—just grab one outside baggage claim. Travel time is usually 15 minutes unless traffic is heavy.
  • Rideshares (Uber/Lyft): Typically cheaper than a taxi during non-peak times. You can request a car once you have your luggage. Quick, convenient, and ideal for couples or families since the cost is per vehicle, not per person.

Other alternatives if you want something pre-booked and structured:

  • Private Shuttles & Car Services: Companies in Miami offer pre-arranged shuttles or private cars. This is great if you prefer guaranteed pickup or you're traveling with a larger group. Prices vary, but for more than two people it can be economical.
  • Hotel Shuttle Packages: If you’re staying in Miami the night before your cruise, some hotels offer a “stay + port shuttle” package. Not always the cheapest, but very convenient if you’re already planning an overnight stay.
  • Shared Cruise Shuttles: Several companies run shared vans that pick up at the airport and drop off at various cruise terminals. These run on a schedule, so they can be slower, but are often budget-friendly.

If you’re deciding between MSC’s official transfer and arranging your own, the deciding factors are usually cost and convenience. If you prefer being shepherded from airport to ship with no extra steps, MSC’s transfer works fine—just pre-book it. If you want the simplest and most economical option, taxis or Uber/Lyft will get you to PortMiami quickly and inexpensively.

For a smooth mid-February trip—when the terminals can be busy—aim to pre-book your transportation or be ready to request a rideshare as soon as you land. You’ll have no trouble getting to the port either way.
