Cruising from Ft Lauderdale but flying into Miami airport

We are flying in to Miami airport and cruising out of Fort Lauderdale the following day. Any recommendations on hotel and transportation? Is there a reasonable shuttle for 4 people or should we get a uber? Should we stay near Ft. Lauderdale cruise port or near Miami airport ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Flying into Miami and cruising out of Fort Lauderdale is a common situation, and there are several practical ways to handle it. The key factors are convenience, cost, and timing, especially if your cruise departs early in the morning.

Hotel Location:

  • If you prefer minimal stress and want to be closest to the port, staying near the Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port is usually best. Many cruise travelers do this because it reduces early-morning travel worries.
  • If you stay near Miami Airport, you may find more hotel options and potentially better rates, but you’ll need to arrange transportation to Fort Lauderdale, which can take 30–60 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Some travelers split the difference by staying somewhere around Hollywood, FL, which is roughly halfway and convenient for both locations.

Transportation Options:

  • Shuttle Services: There are several shared or private shuttle companies that service Miami Airport to Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port. For a party of 4, a shared shuttle could be economical but may involve waiting for other passengers.
  • Uber or Lyft: For 4 people, rideshare is very convenient, direct, and usually takes around 35–50 minutes depending on traffic. The cost is higher than a shared shuttle but may be worth the convenience and flexibility.
  • Private car service: If you want guaranteed timing and a stress-free transfer, hiring a private car service from Miami Airport to your hotel or directly to the port is also an option.

Recommendations:

  • For early morning cruises, staying near Fort Lauderdale is usually less stressful. You can arrive the evening before, enjoy the hotel, and walk or take a very short shuttle to the port.
  • If you arrive late at Miami Airport and want to explore Miami for the night, you could stay near the airport, then schedule an early Uber or shuttle to the port. Make sure to allow plenty of time for morning traffic.
  • Booking hotels that offer port shuttles can save you the hassle of arranging separate transportation.

Overall, for a balance of convenience and comfort, staying in Fort Lauderdale near the cruise port is usually the easiest option, especially with a party of four and luggage.
