Sedona Arizona - Golfing in January

Hi, I am planning a small trip to Sedona here pretty soon (As of January 20th) to go golfing at Oak Creek Country Club, and wanted to see what the conditions will be like? I am aware it will be cold and need to plan well with what to wear, but I have been worried if the tee time will be cancelled when we go up there, cause it's too cold. I have been keeping up with the weather online but different websites say different temperatures. I am assuming it will be around 40-50 degrees while we play (11:00am shotgun start). Please let me know if I am wrong!

Any word of advice for the trip and what to expect?

Golfing in Sedona in late January can be a very pleasant experience, but there are some important considerations regarding weather, course conditions, and what to expect on your trip.

Weather and Course Conditions:

  • In late January, Sedona generally experiences daytime highs in the 50s °F and lows in the 30s °F. Your assumption of 40–50 °F around late morning is reasonable, but temperatures can vary slightly depending on recent weather patterns.
  • Frost is possible early in the morning, so courses may delay tee times or slow play if frost is present. However, by an 11:00am shotgun start, the frost usually melts, and play proceeds normally.
  • Rain or occasional light snow is rare in Sedona in January, but check local forecasts before your tee time for any weather advisories.
  • Oak Creek Country Club typically remains open in January, and tee times are rarely cancelled unless there are extreme weather conditions such as snow accumulation or ice on greens.

What to Wear:

  • Layering is key: start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add a warm mid-layer like a light fleece, and a windbreaker or light waterproof jacket on top if needed.
  • Gloves or a golf-specific winter glove can help maintain grip and warmth.
  • Consider wearing thermal leggings or pants, especially if you are sensitive to cooler temperatures.
  • Sun protection is still important: Sedona gets a fair amount of sunshine even in winter, so sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat are recommended.

Additional Tips:

  • Arrive early to warm up, as mornings are cooler and you may need extra time to get comfortable before teeing off.
  • Bring a small bag with a thermos of hot drink to stay warm between holes if desired.
  • Check the golf course website or call the pro shop on the morning of play to confirm there are no delays or maintenance closures.
  • Golf carts are usually available, but some golfers prefer walking to stay warm and active.

Overall, your golf outing should be fine in late January. The temperatures you are expecting are typical, and cancellations are rare. Being prepared with layers and checking the morning forecast will ensure an enjoyable round at Oak Creek Country Club.
