Can anyone name the restaurant please!

I was in the gaslamp quarter a few years ago and had the best cioppino. I believe it was about a 15 minute walk from the entrance where the sign is I think it was an Italian restaurant and the main thing I remember is the kayak hanging from the ceiling? I know it was not brigantine.

Heading back there in a few weeks. Is there anyone kind person that knows the name based upon my VERY vague description:-(

Thank you!!

Great question — this is a tricky one, because there’s no confirmed, currently open Italian restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego that *definitely* matches your description of serving cioppino and having a kayak hanging from the ceiling. However, there is a strong lead — and also some useful context:

What other people have found:

  • A thread on Tripadvisor features someone with an almost identical memory, and a user responds that the restaurant may have been The Fishhouse, which is now permanently closed.
  • According to that thread, The Fishhouse *did* have a boat (or something resembling a boat) hanging from the ceiling.
  • Another possibility: people remember a cioppino-serving Italian restaurant in the Gaslamp Quarter called Il Sogno Italiano. A Tripadvisor review specifically mentions their cioppino, along with live music.

Assessment:

- Given that The Fishhouse is permanently closed, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to revisit that exact locale. - Il Sogno Italiano is still operating in the Gaslamp Quarter, but I found no mention in recent sources of kayaks or boats as part of its decor. - The description of a kayak specifically makes The Fishhouse more plausible from memory, but sadly since it's closed that might be why it's difficult to find now.

Conclusion:

  • It’s most likely the restaurant you remember was The Fishhouse, but that place is now closed.
  • Il Sogno Italiano is a good alternative if you're looking to relive a similar Italian / seafood-oriented dining experience in the Gaslamp Quarter — especially since they *do* serve cioppino.
