New question about car hire from Orlando Airport
Hi looking for some current info regarding car hire please. We are travelling from the UK to MCO and need a car to fit 4 adults and 2 children. From what I’ve read I think I need a booster for the 7 year old and a car seat for the 4 year old.
Can anyone please recommend which car hire firm to use and if possible confirm what are the necessary’add ons’ many thanks .
For traveling from the UK to Orlando International Airport (MCO) with 4 adults and 2 children, you will need a car large enough to accommodate everyone comfortably along with luggage. Typically, a full-size SUV, minivan, or large SUV will be the best option.
Car Hire Companies:
- Alamo: Popular with international travelers, known for good service and often has larger vehicles suitable for families.
- Avis: Offers a wide range of minivans and SUVs and provides child seat options.
- Hertz: Reliable fleet and typically includes GPS and booster/child seat rentals.
- Enterprise: Well-rated for family rentals and customer service, often has minivans in stock.
- National: Offers Emerald Club for frequent renters, easy pick-up/drop-off at MCO, and suitable vehicles for 6 passengers.
Child Seat & Booster Requirements:
Florida law requires:
- Children aged 0–3: must use a federally approved car seat (rear-facing or forward-facing depending on age/weight).
- Children aged 4–7: must use a booster seat until they are tall enough (typically 4’9” or 8–12 years old) to use a seat belt properly.
- Always check the car hire company for availability and whether the seats are installed or need to be picked up separately.
Other Necessary Add-ons:
- GPS navigation (if not using your own phone, as Orlando traffic and routes can be confusing).
- Insurance coverage – check whether your travel insurance or credit card covers car rental; otherwise, purchase at the counter.
- Additional driver fees, if more than one adult will drive.
- Fuel plan – most companies require you to return the vehicle full.
Tips:
- Book as early as possible, especially for a large vehicle and child seats, as these can sell out quickly at MCO.
- Confirm the total price including taxes and add-ons before pickup.
- Consider renting directly from the company’s airport desk to avoid third-party issues.
In summary, a minivan or full-size SUV from Alamo, Avis, Enterprise, or Hertz, with the required child seat and booster, is the safest and most convenient choice for your family at MCO.
