Family vacation - staying in Pensacola

We're staying in Pensacola with a teen (14) and pre-teen (12) boys in late March/ early April. Planning to hit the beach a few days but need other activities. Naval museum, fishing charter, Fort Pickens are on the list. The parents like breweries so planning that as well. Supposed to rain at least one of the days so looking for options other than the naval museum. Any other ideas for non-beach activities? Is Fast Eddie's worth it?

Pensacola is a fantastic destination with plenty to offer beyond the beach! With a mix of history, outdoor adventures, and activities that cater to both teens and adults, you’ll have no shortage of things to do during your family vacation. Since you already have a few activities in mind—like the Naval Museum, fishing charters, and Fort Pickens—here are some additional suggestions, including indoor options for rainy days.

In addition to your beach time, here are some non-beach activities in Pensacola that your family might enjoy:

  • Pensacola Lighthouse & Museum: This historic lighthouse offers stunning views of the Gulf Coast after climbing to the top. The museum has interesting exhibits on the area's maritime history, and it's a fun challenge for teens and pre-teens to climb the 177 steps.
  • Blue Wahoos Stadium: If you're visiting in late March or early April, check out a Pensacola Blue Wahoos baseball game. The stadium is family-friendly, and you can enjoy a local sporting event while supporting the minor league team. It’s a great outing for teens and pre-teens who like sports.
  • Sam’s Fun City: This amusement park and water park has go-karts, mini-golf, and arcade games, making it a hit for kids of all ages. It's an excellent indoor/outdoor option, especially if the weather isn't perfect for the beach.
  • The Pensacola Museum of Art: If you're looking for something more cultural, the museum offers exhibits that are often interactive, and you can explore contemporary and historical art in a family-friendly environment. It’s a great option for a rainy day.
  • Escambia County Equestrian Center: For a unique experience, consider taking a family horseback riding lesson or trail ride. The equestrian center is just a short drive from downtown Pensacola and provides an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in a different way.
  • DeLuna's Hurricane Lounge: If you’re looking for a more casual place to enjoy a local drink while the kids hang out, this lounge often features live music and a laid-back atmosphere. Some places in Pensacola allow you to bring kids during the daytime or early evening, so you can enjoy the atmosphere while they listen to music or play games.
  • Fast Eddie's: As for Fast Eddie's, it’s a quirky local spot with a casual vibe and some fun activities. It’s mostly known for its relaxed atmosphere and great bar food, with pool tables, darts, and a large outdoor space. If your teens enjoy a laid-back, energetic environment, they may have fun playing pool or hanging out. However, it can get crowded, and it's more of a place for adults to enjoy a drink and relax, so it may not be ideal for younger kids during the late evening hours.

Since you're planning to hit the breweries, Pensacola also has a great craft beer scene. Here are some brewery recommendations that the adults in the group will love:

  • Pensacola Bay Brewery: This brewery has a range of craft beers brewed on-site and a welcoming atmosphere. It’s a great place to stop for a pint after a busy day of activities.
  • Odd Colony Brewing Co.: Located in a former church building, this brewery offers a variety of beers and often has food trucks on-site. It’s another great local spot to relax while enjoying a cold drink.
  • Lost Pirate Brewing: Known for its fun pirate-themed atmosphere, Lost Pirate Brewing offers a variety of craft beers, including some unique seasonal options. They also have a fun, laid-back vibe perfect for enjoying a drink with family.

For rainy days, aside from the museums, you could also visit indoor trampoline parks like Defy Pensacola, or go bowling at Super Bowl for a more low-key indoor activity.

With these options, you’ll have plenty to do, rain or shine. Enjoy your family vacation in Pensacola! It's a great mix of history, adventure, and fun, ensuring everyone will have an enjoyable time!
