Doona stroller on China Southern airlines

Has anyone had any experience taking the doona stroller on a China Southern flight?

Unfortunately there is no bassinet availability for our infant, and it's a 9 hour flight ;(

Traveling with an infant on a long-haul flight can be challenging, especially if there is no bassinet available. Many parents consider using a Doona stroller as it converts into a car seat and is relatively compact.

Regarding China Southern Airlines:

  • China Southern Airlines generally allows strollers to be checked in at the gate. The Doona can usually be brought to the aircraft door and checked before boarding, then picked up at the gate on arrival.
  • The Doona is considered a car seat/stroller combination, so it may also qualify as an approved infant car seat if you have purchased a separate seat for the infant (check with the airline in advance for policies).
  • Onboard, infants without a seat will typically need to travel on your lap. You cannot use the Doona as a seat on the plane for takeoff or landing.

Tips for making a 9-hour flight manageable:

  • Confirm with China Southern Airlines in advance that your Doona stroller is acceptable to gate-check. Policies can vary by aircraft type.
  • Bring a comfortable carrier or wrap to hold your infant during the flight, as the Doona cannot be used in-flight without a seat.
  • Plan for feeding and diaper changes in advance. Long flights with infants often require multiple in-flight routines.
  • Consider aisle seats for easier access to lavatories and to get up without disturbing other passengers.
  • Arrive at the airport early to handle gate check for the stroller and any infant-related procedures.

In summary, the Doona stroller is convenient for transporting your infant to the gate and can usually be checked at the gate with China Southern Airlines. However, it cannot replace a bassinet on board, and the infant will need to travel on your lap during the flight. Pre-confirmation with the airline is highly recommended for a smooth experience.
