Trailhead parking
We are coming into town next week and are looking for an easy hike with ample, reliable parking. We plan to hike on a weekday morning, around 9ish.
Any suggestions? We were thinking Fay Canyon but are unsure of the parking situation.
Thank you!
If you’re looking for an easy hike in Sedona with reliable parking around 9 a.m. on a weekday, there are several options that should work well. Parking can be a challenge at the most popular trailheads, but weekdays are generally less crowded than weekends.
Regarding Fay Canyon:
Fay Canyon is a very popular easy hike (about 2.4 miles round trip) with moderate elevation gain and scenic views. The parking lot at the trailhead is small, usually accommodating around 15–20 cars. On a weekday morning at 9 a.m., you will likely find a spot, but it can fill up quickly if multiple tour groups or early visitors arrive.
Other easy hikes with good parking include:
- Bell Rock Pathway: The parking area near the main Bell Rock Trailhead is larger and offers ample spaces. The hike options here are easy and flat, with several short loops or extensions to make it 2–3 miles.
- Airport Mesa Loop: This trail has a decent-sized parking lot and offers easy hiking with panoramic views of Sedona’s red rocks. It’s also a popular sunset spot if you’re flexible with timing.
- Soldier Pass Trail (easy portion to Devil’s Kitchen sinkhole): The parking lot is moderate in size and tends to be less crowded than other popular trailheads early in the morning. You can hike just the easy portion for a short 2-mile loop.
- West Fork Trail (trailhead at the bottom): While technically more moderate if you go far, you can do just the first 1–2 miles. The parking area is small but weekdays in the morning often have spots.
Tips for parking in Sedona trailheads:
- Arrive early, even on weekdays, especially for the smaller trailheads like Fay Canyon or West Fork.
- Consider visiting the trailheads with larger lots (Bell Rock or Airport Mesa) to avoid stress over finding parking.
- Check for nearby overflow or street parking if the lot is full, but always follow signage to avoid fines.
Overall, for ease and reliable parking around 9 a.m., Bell Rock Pathway or Airport Mesa Loop are probably your safest bets for an easy hike without worrying too much about the parking situation.
