Where to buy groceries
Hi - we're staying at an airbnb two nights prior to starting a land/sea cruise with HAL in late June. Can someone recommend somewhere to pick up groceries for those first two days? The apartment is located near the Anchorage Hilton. Thanks!
Anchorage has several convenient options for grocery shopping near the Hilton, so you can easily stock up for your first two days before your cruise. Late June is a busy time, so stores will be open and well-stocked.
Nearby grocery stores include:
- Carrs/Safeway – About a 5-minute drive or 15-minute walk from the Hilton. Carrs is a full-service supermarket with fresh produce, deli, bakery, and standard grocery items.
- Costco – Around a 10-minute drive from downtown Anchorage. Great for bulk items, snacks, beverages, and prepared foods. A membership is required.
- Fred Meyer – Approximately 10 minutes by car. Offers groceries, produce, household items, and a pharmacy.
- Natural Pantry or local co-ops – If you’re looking for organic or specialty items, there are a few smaller markets downtown that carry local and organic products.
Tips for shopping:
- Bring a small cooler or insulated bag if you plan to pick up fresh seafood or perishable items for the next couple of days.
- Check store hours in advance, as some may open later on Sundays.
- If walking, Carrs/Safeway is the most convenient and easiest to reach on foot.
Overall, for convenience and variety, Carrs/Safeway is likely your best option near the Hilton, but Fred Meyer or Costco are good alternatives if you prefer larger selections or bulk items.
