Cha chaan teng near HK station

Hi,

I will arrive late at night and will stay at a hotel near the airport before boarding my connecting flight next day departing at 3pm.

I'm assuming my luggage will be sent to the final destination, ie, I don't need to retrieve my luggage at HK.

Are there any good cha chaan teng near HK station which accepts credit or debit cards as I won't be bringing any HK currency with me.

How long do you reckon I need to make the round trip + eating?

Thanks!

Yes, it’s definitely possible to visit a cha chaan teng near Hong Kong Station for a quick meal even if you are arriving late at night and staying near the airport. Since your luggage will likely be checked through to your final destination, you won’t need to retrieve it at Hong Kong, which makes this trip simpler.

Here are some cha chaan teng options near Hong Kong Station that are popular and generally accept credit/debit cards (though it’s always good to confirm at the counter):

  • Tsui Wah Restaurant – Classic Hong Kong-style diner offering milk tea, baked pork chop rice, and noodle dishes. Located in Central, just a short walk from Hong Kong Station.
  • Australia Dairy Company – Famous for its breakfast sets, scrambled eggs, and milk tea. Quick service, though it can get busy. Walkable from HK Station.
  • Kam Fung Café – Another popular cha chaan teng known for pineapple buns and Hong Kong-style coffee and tea. Accessible via a 10-15 minute walk or short taxi from HK Station.

For the timing, considering you are traveling from the airport area (assuming you are near Hong Kong International Airport) to Hong Kong Station, here’s an estimate:

  • Airport Express: About 24 minutes from Airport to Hong Kong Station. Add 5 minutes for transfer and walking.
  • Round trip: 48-50 minutes on the train plus any walking to/from the cha chaan teng.
  • Eating: Allow 30-45 minutes for a meal at a cha chaan teng, depending on crowd and service speed.

Overall, you would need roughly 1.5 to 2 hours for a comfortable round trip including the meal, making it feasible even with a tight schedule. If your flight is at 3pm, leaving your airport hotel around 11am would give you plenty of time.

Tips:

  • Carry your credit/debit card, but some small cha chaan tengs may still prefer cash; a small amount of HKD might be useful.
  • Try to order simple dishes to keep your meal quick and enjoyable.
  • Check the opening hours of the cha chaan teng, as some may close early or have a morning-only menu.
