Arriving at 8:45 p.m. on Feb 12. Departing at 8:55 a.m. Feb 15. Want to go to Macao for a day and HK city for a day.

Thinking of staying at airport (Regal maybe). Ferry to Macao on 13th and then Discovery Bay to HK on the 14th.

First does this make sense and

Second what effect will Friday the 13th and Valentine's on the 14th have moving around and crowd's?

Thank you in advance.

Your plan to stay at the airport on the night of Feb 12 and then visit Macao and Hong Kong city over the next two days is generally feasible, but there are some timing and crowd considerations to keep in mind.

Regarding your itinerary:

  • Arriving at 8:45 p.m. on Feb 12, staying at the Regal Airport Hotel is convenient and sensible. It allows you to rest without having to transfer into the city late at night.
  • Taking a ferry to Macao on Feb 13 is doable. The ferry from Hong Kong to Macao typically takes about 1 hour each way, but you should allow extra time for customs and immigration on both sides. Booking tickets in advance is recommended, especially since Feb 13 is a Friday, which can be busy.
  • Visiting Discovery Bay in Hong Kong on Feb 14 is possible, but note that Valentine’s Day may increase local crowds, particularly in popular spots, restaurants, and attractions.

Crowd considerations:

  • Friday the 13th is a weekday, so regular commuter traffic might be heavier during peak hours, and ferry services may be slightly busier than a typical weekday.
  • Valentine’s Day (Feb 14) tends to be one of the busiest days for popular tourist spots, shopping areas, and restaurants. In Hong Kong, areas like Central, Tsim Sha Tsui, and popular ferry routes can see significantly higher traffic. Booking tickets, restaurants, or activities in advance is strongly advised.
  • Public transport like MTR, buses, and ferries may be more crowded than usual on Feb 14, so allow extra travel time.

Additional tips:

  • Consider starting your days early to avoid the peak crowds at Macao attractions and in Hong Kong city.
  • In Macao, popular areas like Senado Square, Ruins of St. Paul, and casinos can get crowded; plan your route efficiently.
  • For Discovery Bay, ferry schedules should be checked in advance, and allow extra time for returning to the airport on Feb 15 morning.
  • Keep an eye on weather conditions, as February can be cool and occasionally rainy.

Overall, your plan makes sense with careful timing. Staying at the airport initially minimizes fatigue, and dedicating Feb 13 to Macao and Feb 14 to Discovery Bay/Hong Kong city is manageable. Just be prepared for larger crowds due to the Friday and Valentine’s Day combination, and book tickets or transport in advance whenever possible.
