When I actually visited, the first thing that struck me was the former Naval Academy's majestic architecture. The red-brick auditorium and museum feel like a movie set, allowing me to explore the area and feel the weight of history. Afterward, I relaxed at a waterfront cafe, savoring local oysters and other seafood. 🐚🍴
The island's tranquil, nostalgic atmosphere makes it perfect for both a leisurely couple's drive or a solo trip exploring history. Cycling and fishing are also available, making it a great choice for active travelers!
Access is via a 30-minute ferry ride from Ujina Port in Hiroshima City. Access is also possible from Kure Port. You can also access the island by car, making it a great combination with the Shimanami Kaido.
