Pearl of the Plateau, Picturesque Scenery - A Self-Driving Tour of Lugu Lake, Erhai Lake, and Fuxian Lake in Yunnan

During a self-driving tour of Yunnan in May 2019, I had the opportunity to travel around three of Yunnan's renowned lakes: Lugu Lake, Erhai Lake, and Fuxian Lake. I admired the magnificent beauty of nature amidst its unique scenery and experienced its masterpieces. Along the way, the picturesque scenery of lakes and mountains was a feast for the eyes, leaving a lasting impression and leaving a lasting impression.

Lugu Lake is located at the junction of Ninglang County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province and Yanyuan County, Liangzhou City, Sichuan Province. Part of the lake is in Yunnan and part is in Sichuan. It is shared by Yunnan and Sichuan. Located at an altitude of 2,685 meters, Lugu Lake is surrounded by verdant mountains and boasts a winding, graceful shoreline. Along the shore are numerous beaches, bays, and peninsulas. The picturesque scenery and simple folk customs create a captivating scene, akin to a paradise on earth. It is known as the "Pearl of the Plateau." The Mosuo people, who live on the Yunnan side of the lake, practice a walking marriage system where men do not marry and women do not marry, leading to its nickname, "The Kingdom of Women of the East." The beautiful natural environment and unique ethnic customs have made Lugu Lake a renowned tourist destination.

5. There's an observation deck not far from the entrance to the scenic area on the Yunnan side, offering panoramic views of Lugu Lake. Also on the hillside north of Lige Village along the lakeside route is a viewing platform, offering panoramic views of the Lige Peninsula. From Nise Village, there's a cable car that ascends to Gemu Mountain. If you have time, take the cable car up to the mountain and enjoy a truly breathtaking view of Lugu Lake. 6. Most tourists reach Lugu Lake from Lijiang. The road has improved significantly over the years thanks to continuous renovations and expansions. The previously required "Lining Eighteen Bends" have been replaced by new roads. This improved road condition significantly shortens travel time. The road from Yanyuan County, Sichuan, to Lugu Lake is narrower, with dozens of kilometers of winding mountain roads. Drive carefully and control your speed. However, for self-driving tourists, the biggest advantage is that you don't have to backtrack.
