Turo car rental

Just looking for updated reviews on Turo car rental service. Past reviews were not great.

Car rentals at MCO are expensive for 2 weeks. I pick the airport cause it's easier with our flight times. Any updated reviews would be appreciated.

Thanks

Good question. Here’s a breakdown of more recent (“2024–2025”) feedback on using Turo at/near Orlando International Airport (MCO), plus some key pros and risks — especially compared to traditional car rental.

Recent Feedback & Reviews for Turo at MCO / Orlando

  • Trustpilot Reviews: Turo has many positive reviews. Hosts often get praise for being responsive, the vehicles being clean, and pick-up/drop-off (via the app) being smooth.
  • Host Examples in Orlando: For example, a 2024 Hyundai Tucson host (with pickup at MCO) has a 4.99/5 rating from ~79 trips. Several renters note strong communication and a well-maintained vehicle.
  • Fun / Unique Cars Available: There are very good ‘enthusiast’ or sporty cars available. One recent listing was a 2024 Ford Mustang with 4.93/5 and many renters loved both the car and the host.
  • MCO Airport Integration: Turo has a formal agreement with Orlando International Airport. As of 2022, they have designated parking areas (economy lots, garage spots) for Turo pick-up/drop-off, which makes using Turo at MCO more legitimate and convenient.
  • Reddit / User-Reported Risks:
    • Some users say the “airport pickup” isn’t always as close as advertised: one renter claimed their pickup was *nine miles away*.
    • Risk of host cancellation: a user said their MCO booking was canceled on short notice, and Turo wouldn’t cover the full price difference for alternatives.
    • Quality varies by host: another Redditor warned that because Turo is peer-to-peer, the experience can strongly depend on the host. Some are great; others, not so much.
    • On pricing: while you might think Turo will always be cheaper, one recent comment said a local traditional rental ended up being much cheaper than Turo for a 2-week booking.

Pros of Using Turo in Orlando (Especially at MCO):

  • Wide selection of vehicles: Economy cars, luxury cars, or more unique models, depending on what you're looking for.
  • Potentially better price for longer rentals: Because you're dealing with individual hosts, you may get better long-term rates if you book early and pick the right car.
  • Avoid crowded rental counters: You don’t need to wait in long lines as you would with traditional rental companies.
  • Convenient pickup/drop-off: With MCO’s designated Turo areas (garages and economy lots), pick-up and drop-off is relatively streamlined.
  • Flexible insurance: You choose the protection level that you want via Turo's plans.

Risks & Drawbacks to Watch Out For:

  • Host Cancellation: Since car owners are individuals, they may cancel due to personal reasons — which could leave you scrambling, especially close to your trip.
  • Hidden or Extra Fees: Depending on the host, “airport pickup” may carry extra fees (parking, logistics), even on MCO.
  • Quality Variability: Not all hosts are equal. Some may not maintain their cars as well, or communication can be less reliable.
  • Customer Service: Several users report that dealing with Turo support (especially for last-minute changes or disputes) can be more difficult than dealing with a traditional rental company.
  • Insurance / Protection Plan Cost: Depending on the protection option you pick, costs can add up. You’ll want to carefully compare the Turo plan to what you might already have from credit cards or personal insurance.

Overall Take / Recommendation:

Yes — Turo in Orlando (particularly at MCO) seems to be much more viable now than older negative reviews might suggest. Many people are having very good experiences, especially with thoughtful hosts. But it's not entirely risk-free: you’ll want to be careful about which host you pick, confirm airport pickup logistics, and be prepared for possible cancellations or bumps.

If I were in your shoes and trying to save money for a 2-week rental from MCO, here’s what I would do:

  • Start searching as early as possible, so you can lock in good hosts + cars. (Redditors recommend booking early.)
  • Filter for “Airport pickup” carefully, but double-check the pick-up location in the listing (some users have been burned by misleading pickup spots).
  • Read the host’s reviews — not just the car — to make sure past renters had good experiences.
  • Pick a protection plan that works for you: if you have good travel insurance or an existing collision policy, you may be able to choose a more basic Turo protection level.
  • Be flexible / have a backup plan — if your Turo host cancels, have another cheap backup (or know local traditional rental rates).

Bottom line: Turo is a very viable option for Orlando / MCO right now, especially for a longer trip, but don’t treat it exactly the same as a traditional rental. With a bit of care in selecting the right car and host, you could save a good amount over standard rental companies — but be ready for more “peer-to-peer” variability.

Happy planning — and enjoy Orlando!
