Traveling from Macau to Hong Kong for a day trip is very doable, and public transport in Hong Kong is extensive. Here’s a detailed guide for your visit, including buses, cards, and timing.

Travel from Macau to Hong Kong:

  • You can take the ferry from Macau to Hong Kong. Ferries run frequently throughout the day from Macau Outer Harbour or Taipa Ferry Terminals to Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan or Hong Kong International Airport if you prefer.
  • The first ferry is typically around 7:00–8:00 am, and the last ferry back from Hong Kong to Macau is usually around 23:00–00:00, depending on the ferry operator.

Public transport in Hong Kong:

  • Yes, you can travel around Hong Kong using public buses, minibuses, trams, MTR, and ferries. Buses are reliable and cover most tourist destinations.
  • While you can pay cash on buses, it is highly recommended to get an Octopus card. It works on buses, MTR, trams, ferries, and some convenience stores, making transfers faster and avoiding the need for exact cash.

Visiting Stanley and Victoria Peak:

  • To reach Stanley from Central, take the New World First Bus Route 6, 6A, or 6X, which are direct to Stanley Market and Stanley Main Street.
  • To reach Victoria Peak, take the Peak Tram from Garden Road in Central for a scenic ascent. Alternatively, bus routes like 15 from Central Ferry Piers also go to the Peak.
  • For a night view of Victoria Harbour, head to Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade or Sky100 Observation Deck. MTR from Central or ferry from Central to Tsim Sha Tsui are convenient options.

Timing considerations:

  • Public buses operate mostly until around midnight, but some routes to tourist areas may stop earlier.
  • Peak Tram runs until about 23:00, but check the schedule as it may close earlier depending on the season.
  • Plan your return to the ferry terminal with enough time to catch the last ferry back to Macau, ideally at least 1–1.5 hours before the ferry departs.

Tips for a smooth day trip:

  • Start early from Macau to maximize your time in Hong Kong.
  • Use the Octopus card to save time on bus and MTR payments.
  • Consider a combination of MTR and buses to optimize travel between Stanley, Victoria Peak, and Tsim Sha Tsui for night views.
