Peng Chau or Cheung Chau or both?

In our next trip to Hong Kong, wondering to visit Peng Chau, or Cheung Chau or both? If do both , then will give each island one full day and hence stay 3N. Don’t want to rush both in one day.

Thank you.

Both Peng Chau and Cheung Chau are charming outlying islands in Hong Kong, each offering a unique experience. If you have the time, dedicating one full day to each island is ideal to explore without feeling rushed.

Peng Chau: A smaller, quieter island with a laid-back village atmosphere. It’s perfect for leisurely walks, cycling, and exploring temples and old industrial relics. Key highlights include:

  • Strolling around the small village and waterfront.
  • Visiting the Tin Hau Temple and other small local temples.
  • Exploring old factories and the island’s history.
  • Enjoying local seafood and small cafes.

Cheung Chau: Larger and more lively, known for its beaches, seafood, and traditional festivals. It offers more activities and attractions than Peng Chau, such as:

  • Walking or cycling around the island’s scenic paths.
  • Visiting the Pak Tai Temple and Cheung Chau Bun Festival area.
  • Relaxing on Tung Wan Beach or Kwun Yam Beach.
  • Sampling local seafood and street snacks.
  • Optional hiking to viewpoints for panoramic views of the island.

If you prefer a relaxed pace and enjoy exploring local culture, it’s worth spending one full day on each island. For a 3-night stay, you could do:

  • Day 1: Arrive and explore Cheung Chau.
  • Day 2: Spend the day on Peng Chau.
  • Day 3: Flex day to revisit your favorite spots or relax before heading back to Hong Kong main areas.

Both islands are easily accessible by ferry from Central Pier in Hong Kong, with regular services running throughout the day. Planning one full day per island ensures you can see the highlights, enjoy local food, and soak in the island vibes without feeling rushed.
