Larger Taxi's - Airport Transfer
Hi, are large taxi's (6-7 seater) readily available from the airport to Admiralty, travelling with family of 4, so 4 large cases and few small cabin luggage. Arriving at around 3pm. thanks
Yes, larger taxis that can accommodate 6-7 passengers are available at Hong Kong International Airport, though they are not as numerous as standard 4-seater taxis. Since you are traveling with a family of 4 plus 4 large suitcases and some cabin luggage, you will need a “Maxi Taxi” or a pre-booked private van.
Here are the details:
- Maxi Taxis: Hong Kong has Red Maxi Taxis that can carry up to 6 passengers. They are slightly more expensive than standard taxis and have limited luggage space, so 4 large suitcases may be tight but manageable if you use the roof racks available at some taxis.
- Private airport transfer / van: For comfort with all luggage, booking a private airport transfer or van is recommended. Many services allow 6-7 passengers with full luggage and can be booked online in advance.
- Availability at 3pm: 3pm is generally a busy time at the airport, but you should be able to get a larger taxi. Pre-booking ensures you won’t have to wait in case of high demand.
Practical advice:
- If you prefer flexibility, arrive at the taxi stand and ask for a Maxi Taxi. There may be a short wait.
- If you want guaranteed seating and luggage space, book a private airport transfer in advance. Many services will have English-speaking drivers and allow door-to-door service to Admiralty.
- Keep in mind that standard red taxis may not fit all your luggage. Do not attempt to force all items into a regular taxi, as it will be uncomfortable and possibly not permitted.
Summary:
Larger taxis are available, but for a family with significant luggage, pre-booking a private van or Maxi Taxi is the most convenient and stress-free option, especially during mid-afternoon airport arrivals.
