Transportation in Hong Kong

Hi, we are a party of 4 paxs with probably 3 luggages (size 26inches with one 30inch). Would like to check on the following :

1) how many luggages can a standard taxi in HK take? 2 or 3?

2) if we are staying in hotel stage, is it easy to take A21 alight at bus stop #11 to walk to the hotel? Will it be far to walk? Any stairs on the route? Is there other means of payment besides octopus card? Eg contactless credit card or buying from a counter at the airport?

3) From Hotel stage to HK Kowloon West station, I googled and says it will take est 25mins walk .. is it an easy walk or advise to just take 2 taxis? Or any other advice?

4) Or is there a more convenient hotel to stay for easy access from airport and for my onward journey to the Kowloon west station?

Appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Here is a detailed overview regarding transportation in Hong Kong for your party of four with luggage:

1) Taxi luggage capacity:

Standard Hong Kong taxis are typically small to medium sedans and can comfortably accommodate 3 passengers with 2 large suitcases. With 3 large pieces of luggage (26–30 inches), it may be a tight fit. Options include:

  • Book two taxis for comfort and convenience, especially if luggage is bulky.
  • Some larger taxis (e.g., “maxi taxis” or minivans) are available for pre-booking and can comfortably hold 4 passengers with 3+ large suitcases.

2) A21 Airport Bus to Hotel Stage:

A21 is a convenient airport bus route to central areas including Hong Kong Island. Regarding your questions:

  • Bus stop #11 to Hotel Stage: It’s generally a short walk (5–10 minutes) from the bus stop to nearby hotels. The route is mostly flat but may have small steps or ramps depending on exact hotel entrance. It's advisable to check with your hotel for specific directions.
  • Payment: Octopus card is widely accepted. You can also pay with contactless credit/debit cards on the bus, or purchase single-trip tickets from the airport counter or bus driver.

3) Walking to Kowloon West Station from Hotel Stage:

  • The walk is around 25 minutes, mostly on city sidewalks. Hong Kong streets may include slight inclines and crossings. With luggage, it may be tiring or cumbersome.
  • Alternative: Taking 1 or 2 taxis is highly recommended for convenience, especially with multiple large suitcases.
  • Another option: Check if your hotel is near an MTR station and use the subway to reach Kowloon West efficiently.

4) Hotel convenience for airport and Kowloon West:

Consider hotels near the following areas for easier access:

  • Hong Kong Station / Central Station: Direct airport bus stops, easy access to Star Ferry and MTR lines.
  • Kowloon Station / Tsim Sha Tsui: Convenient for transfer to Kowloon West Station via MTR or taxi, and shopping/amenities.
  • Hotels along Nathan Road or near Tsim Sha Tsui MTR: Easier connections and shorter walks to key transport hubs.

Summary:

With 4 people and 3 large suitcases, it’s often easiest to split into 2 taxis for comfort. If taking the airport bus, check the walking route to your hotel and consider your luggage situation. Walking 25 minutes with luggage to Kowloon West is doable but may be inconvenient; a taxi or MTR connection is recommended. Choosing a hotel near major transport hubs like Central or Tsim Sha Tsui simplifies your travel.
