WaiChai to Macau via HZMB Bus
Hi,
I am a bit confused reading through the HZMB website on how to catch the bus from Waichai to Macau. Do I need to go from Waichai back to the HKG Airport in order to catch the HZMA Bus to Macau is that correct? Other option is the speed boat, but we worry about being seasickness due to rough sea. Can we catch the HZMB bus anywhere near any of the train station?
Thank you,
Tibby
You do not need to go back to Hong Kong International Airport to catch the HZMB (Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge) shuttle bus. The HZMB shuttle service connects Hong Kong and Macau via the bridge, and there are multiple departure points in Hong Kong besides the airport.
Here’s how it works from Wanchai:
- The main HZMB Hong Kong port for buses is at the Hong Kong Port, located on the Hong Kong side of the bridge in the New Territories. This is separate from Wanchai, so you will need to travel there first.
- From Wanchai, the easiest way is to take a taxi, Didi, or public transport (MTR + bus/taxi combination) to the HZMB Hong Kong Port.
- There isn’t a direct HZMB bus pickup from Wanchai itself, nor from central train stations like Hung Hom or Kowloon Station. You must reach the designated HZMB departure terminal in the New Territories.
- Once at the HZMB Hong Kong Port, you can purchase tickets for the shuttle bus to Macau. The bus takes approximately 40–50 minutes to reach Macau.
Alternative options:
- If seasickness is a concern, the HZMB shuttle bus is a safer and smoother option compared to ferries or speedboats.
- For travelers preferring public transport, MTR and bus combinations can be used to reach the HZMB terminal from central Hong Kong, but taxi/Didi is the simplest and fastest for luggage and convenience.
- Do note that both Hong Kong and Macau require passing through immigration at their respective checkpoints on the bridge, so keep passports and necessary documents ready.
Summary: From Wanchai, travel to the HZMB Hong Kong Port by taxi or combination of MTR and bus. There is no direct HZMB bus from Wanchai itself, and using the airport departure is not necessary unless convenient for your route. Once at the Hong Kong Port, you can take the shuttle bus to Macau smoothly, avoiding seasickness issues from speedboats.
