Hyatt Regency vs Sheraton
We have a trip planned for December to visit family. We will have a 6 year old with us. We are looking to stay around TsT area from 22nd to 26th to explore city.
We had previously stayed at Hyatt Regency two years ago in their Regency suite. We enjoyed our stay and the location was fantastic.
I compared the price between Hyatt and Sheraton. Sheraton's 1 Bedroom larger suite 2 double, currently cost slightly less than Hyatt's 2 twin bed room.
Is there a catch with Sheraton? If there is someone who stayed at both could give some comparison that would be great.
Both the Hyatt Regency and Sheraton in the Tsim Sha Tsui (TsT) area of Hong Kong are well-located options for exploring the city, shopping, and visiting family. Choosing between them depends on priorities such as room layout, amenities, service, and overall experience, especially when traveling with a child.
Here’s a detailed comparison:
- Location: Both hotels are centrally located in TsT. Hyatt Regency is slightly closer to the waterfront and Star Ferry, while Sheraton is near Kowloon Park and still within walking distance to main shopping streets. For sightseeing with a child, either location works well.
- Room Size and Layout: Sheraton’s 1-Bedroom suite with 2 doubles is indeed larger than Hyatt’s 2 twin-bed room. The suite layout typically includes a separate living area, which can be more convenient for a family with a child, offering more space for relaxing or playing.
- Price: Sheraton being slightly cheaper may reflect seasonal promotions, or the Hyatt Regency’s Regency suite may have additional amenities or a slightly higher service level. There’s generally no hidden “catch,” but check for inclusions such as breakfast, Wi-Fi, and access to club lounges, which could differ.
- Family-Friendliness: Both hotels are family-friendly, but Hyatt Regency has a slightly more modern feel and is known for attentive service. Sheraton may offer larger suites at a lower price, but the decor might feel more traditional. Some guests report that Hyatt rooms are quieter, which may matter with a 6-year-old.
Additional considerations:
- Check whether the Sheraton suite offers breakfast included in the rate, or if it incurs extra cost.
- Check the bedding and sleeping arrangements—some suites with 2 doubles may not have a true separate bedroom and could feel less private than expected.
- Consider amenities like swimming pool, play areas, or kid-friendly facilities. Hyatt Regency often has a rooftop pool and more modern facilities suitable for families.
- Loyalty programs and points—if you are part of Hyatt or Marriott (for Sheraton), it may influence your choice.
In summary, if your priority is space and a slightly lower rate, Sheraton’s 1-Bedroom suite is attractive and generally fine for families. If you value a slightly quieter, more modern experience with proven service and a familiar location, Hyatt Regency remains a solid choice. Both are convenient for exploring TsT and family visits.
