Getting around ZJJ
We have 5 persons & was wondering whether it is easy to get a taxi or Didi for 5 persons around the ZJJ areas, including all the different scenic spots? We hope not to split the group up during traveling from point to point.
Or do we hire a full time driver instead to get around which likely to be much more expensive.
Traveling around Zhangjiajie (ZJJ) with a group of 5 can be done in several ways, but there are some practical considerations to keep in mind. The main scenic spots, including Tianmen Mountain, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Yuanjiajie, and Baofeng Lake, are spread out, and some areas are not easily connected by public transport.
Here are the main options for your group:
- Taxi or Didi: Standard taxis usually fit up to 4 passengers, so for a group of 5, you would either need a larger vehicle or split into two cars. Didi can sometimes provide SUVs or larger cars, but availability may be limited, especially in remote scenic areas or during peak tourist season.
- Full-time driver/chartered vehicle: Hiring a private driver for the day is a very convenient option for a group of 5. You get flexibility with timing, can carry luggage or picnic supplies, and don’t have to split up the group. Prices vary depending on vehicle size and duration, but it is generally more expensive than taking multiple taxis.
- Hotel shuttle services or scenic area buses: Some hotels or scenic areas offer private or semi-private shuttle services. These can be a cost-effective option, but schedules are fixed and may not align perfectly with your itinerary.
Practical suggestions:
- Check in advance with your hotel to see if they can arrange a private van or driver for the duration of your stay; they often have trusted drivers familiar with all scenic spots.
- If using Didi, make sure to select the larger car option (“MPV” or “SUV”) to accommodate all 5 passengers comfortably.
- Consider splitting into two taxis only if a larger vehicle cannot be arranged; coordinate with the drivers to stick together during transfers.
- Plan your days to minimize backtracking, as some scenic spots are quite far apart and traffic can be heavy in peak season.
In summary, while taxis or Didi are feasible for smaller groups, for a party of 5 it is more practical and comfortable to hire a full-time driver or a chartered van, especially if you want to avoid splitting up and enjoy a relaxed pace throughout Zhangjiajie.
