When’s the best time to visit?

I’m planning to visit Hong Kong for a week but cannot decide on the following dates:

October 23rd-30th

December 18th-25th

March 26th-April 2nd

My main interests are photography, architecture, history and scenery and would like some recommendations on which of the dates above would make for the best visit.

I enjoy chaotic and energised cities and don’t mind crowds.

Thanks

All three periods you mentioned—late October, mid-December, and late March/early April—are popular for visiting Hong Kong, but they offer slightly different experiences in terms of weather, crowds, and scenery.

Here’s a detailed breakdown:

  • October 23–30: This is one of the best times to visit Hong Kong. The weather is usually pleasant, with temperatures around 24–28°C (75–82°F) and lower humidity compared to summer. Rainfall decreases significantly after September, so outdoor photography and sightseeing are ideal. The city remains vibrant, but it is not as crowded as the Christmas period.
  • December 18–25: This period coincides with Christmas, which makes the city lively and festive. The temperature is cooler, usually around 15–20°C (59–68°F), so comfortable for walking. Expect large crowds at shopping districts, holiday light displays, and attractions. If you enjoy festive architecture, illuminated streets, and energetic city scenes, this is a visually rewarding period for photography, though busy.
  • March 26–April 2: Early spring brings mild temperatures (around 18–24°C / 64–75°F) and blooming flowers in parks and gardens. Humidity is moderate, and rain is less frequent than summer, though occasional showers can occur. This is a quieter period compared to Christmas, which is good for relaxed sightseeing, architecture photography, and urban landscapes without excessive crowds.

Recommendations based on your interests:

  • If you prefer pleasant weather, clear skies, and a lively but not overwhelming city, late October is the best option.
  • If you enjoy chaotic, energetic scenes and festive lights for photography, December during Christmas week offers a unique urban vibe, but expect large crowds.
  • If you want fewer tourists and a more relaxed photography experience, especially for architecture and scenery, late March/early April is ideal, also allowing springtime blooms in parks.

Overall, for a combination of weather, scenery, and city energy, late October strikes the best balance. December is great for festive urban photography, while March/April is perfect for springtime and calmer sightseeing.
