Warung Pulau Kelapa - a mini art museum of a restaurant

While looking for a breakfast spot that provides an authentic Balinese experience, it is definitely a hefty reward to find Warung Pulau Kelapa, nestled in a hotel compound on the road leading to Ubud. Classic paintings from Balinese/Indonesian yesteryears furnish the seasoned-yet-polished wooden walls. Walking into the warung makes one feel like stepping back into a time when tradition dictates everything. Befitting its name, coconut trees decorate the premises, providing a cool island atmosphere. A noteworthy display piece is the spice cabinet in the center of the restaurant, greeting patrons with some realia of the colonial past, and at the same time serving a glimpse at the ingredients of traditional Balinese dishes. At the sight of all these magnificent artifacts, maybe a look at the menu would be less of a priority.
