Sun park pass kiosk in Sanford SFB airport?

Traveling from SFB (Sandford) airport to Claremont about hr south of there. I know MCO carries the kiosk for the Sunpass, does Sanford? Will I even need it? Are there tolls between that airport and where I’m going that take cash or have the license plate video option? If license plate video option, how does that work? Would rather not pay $45 for the rental car box toll receptor. Going back & forth once. Not visiting Disney.

SunPass kiosks are not available at Sanford International Airport (SFB) like they are at Orlando International (MCO). If you want to use a SunPass for tolls, you would need to either bring your own transponder, buy one online, or purchase one at a nearby retailer before hitting the toll roads.

Regarding your route from SFB to Clermont (about an hour south), here’s what to consider:

  • The primary toll road you may encounter is the Florida Turnpike. Most of these tolls are electronic, and cash lanes are very limited.
  • Many toll plazas on your route accept "Toll-By-Plate," which is a license plate video system. With this system, cameras capture your plate, and the rental company or registered owner receives a bill by mail.
  • Using Toll-By-Plate is convenient if you don’t want to pay for a SunPass transponder, but rental car companies usually add a service fee (often $3–$6 per toll) on top of the toll itself.

If you only plan a single round trip and want to avoid extra rental fees for the SunPass box, Toll-By-Plate is a practical option. You’ll receive a bill after your trip, and the process is automatic, but it may be slightly more expensive than using a SunPass directly.

Summary and options:

  • Buy a SunPass transponder for the car if you want the lowest toll cost and avoid rental service fees.
  • Use Toll-By-Plate via the rental car; the system will capture your license plate and bill the rental company.
  • Plan your route and check the Florida Turnpike website to see exact toll points and charges between SFB and Clermont.

In short, you do not strictly need a SunPass for a short round trip, but using one saves money compared to the rental car’s Toll-By-Plate fees. There is no SunPass kiosk at SFB, so you would need to plan ahead if you want to use one.
