10 Day Family Leisure Vacation in May
We're traveling with our twins will be 6 in April, we're planing from 9th May to 20th May. We'll land at Hong Kong on the 9th morning.
Initially I thought we will split our stay at all the 3 Disney resorts but now I'm thinking against it, after reading that everything is far from Disneyland. So will be Checkin in to Disneyland Resort on 13th onwards.
So the initial days 9th to 12th, I need some help to decide where to stay We're looking for a good hotel with a Swimming pool and also a bathtub in the room. And also an itenary to plan to visit these places on 9th to 12th.
1) Ocean Park
2) Avenue of Stars and the Light Show at night, probably the cruise too.
3) Peak Tram to Victoria Peak and the Sky Terrace
4) Ngong Ping Crystal Cable Car
5) Tian Tan Buddha
6) Street Shopping
7) Shopping for Collectables (Anime)
8) Shopping for Kids toys
9) Noah's Ark (Optional , should we do it?)
Please if I've missed out something do recommend.
Thank You.
For your 10-day family leisure vacation in Hong Kong in May, focusing on the first part of your trip (9th to 12th May), it makes sense to stay somewhere convenient to central Hong Kong for sightseeing, dining, and shopping, before moving to the Disneyland area for the last few days. Since you are traveling with twins, a hotel with a swimming pool and bathtub is ideal for relaxation after busy sightseeing days.
Recommended areas to stay for 9th to 12th May:
- Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon side): Central location, easy access to Star Ferry, Avenue of Stars, shopping areas like Harbour City, and restaurants. Several family-friendly hotels have pools and bathtubs.
- Hong Kong Island – Central / Wan Chai: Good access to Peak Tram, shopping districts, and convenient transport to Ngong Ping and Ocean Park. Some luxury hotels have pools and family rooms with bathtubs.
Suggested family-friendly hotels with pool and bathtub in these areas:
- InterContinental Hong Kong (Tsim Sha Tsui) – pool with harbour view, spacious family rooms.
- The Peninsula Hong Kong (Tsim Sha Tsui) – classic luxury, pool, and bathtubs.
- JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong (Wan Chai) – pool, family rooms, easy access to Peak Tram.
- Island Shangri-La (Central) – large pool, family-friendly suites with bathtubs.
Suggested itinerary for 9th to 12th May:
- Day 1 – 9th May (Arrival & Settling In): Arrive in the morning, check-in, relax by the hotel pool. Optional short walk around Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade or Harbour City for a light introduction.
- Day 2 – 10th May (Ocean Park): Spend the full day at Ocean Park. Arrive early to enjoy rides, aquariums, and shows. Return to hotel for pool or rest in the evening.
- Day 3 – 11th May (Hong Kong Island Highlights): Take the Peak Tram to Victoria Peak and Sky Terrace for morning views. Afternoon: street shopping in Central and Sheung Wan. Evening: Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui, watch Symphony of Lights. Optional evening cruise if time permits.
- Day 4 – 12th May (Lantau Island – Ngong Ping & Tian Tan Buddha): Morning: take the Ngong Ping Crystal Cable Car. Visit Tian Tan Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. Afternoon: return to city, explore shopping for kids’ toys (Toy Street in Mong Kok) or collectibles (Manga, Anime shops in Mong Kok and Causeway Bay). Optional: Noah’s Ark if you have extra energy, located on Ma Wan Island; it’s a fun half-day family attraction.
Other considerations and tips:
- Public transport in Hong Kong is efficient: MTR, buses, trams, and ferries are very convenient for sightseeing.
- Book Ngong Ping cable car tickets in advance, especially during May holidays.
- Street shopping areas like Mong Kok and Causeway Bay are best visited late afternoon to evening when streets are lively.
- Noah’s Ark is optional – if your twins enjoy themed parks and animals, it’s fun but can be skipped if tired after Lantau.
- Keep evenings flexible for swimming and relaxing at the hotel, especially with young children.
By 13th May, you can check in to the Disneyland Resort area and enjoy 2-3 full days dedicated to Disneyland and surrounding attractions without worrying about commuting from the city center.
