Considering a 6 night stay in San Diego without a car. We would like to visit Seaport Village, Bilboa Park, Old Town and take the ferry to Coronado. Have had a look at the Town and Country Hotel as there is a trolley stop close by. We would like to spend some down time at the hotel and thought the grounds and pool areas looked nice, would welcome any views on the hotel and how easy it would be to use public transport from there. Previous stays have been at the Bahia and Shelter Island but we no longer want to drive.
The Town and Country Hotel is a good choice for your stay in San Diego, especially if you're looking to avoid driving and want easy access to public transportation. Here’s a detailed look at the hotel and its surrounding areas:
Hotel and Grounds: The Town and Country Hotel is located in the Mission Valley area, which is a central location for exploring many parts of San Diego. The hotel is known for its spacious grounds, well-maintained pool area, and family-friendly atmosphere. There are plenty of places to relax on-site, making it a good option for downtime. The hotel features a nice outdoor pool, gardens, and various dining options. While the property itself may not have the beachfront or coastal feel of other hotels in the area, its amenities make it a comfortable choice for a stay with a more resort-like experience.
Access to Public Transportation: The Town and Country Hotel has a trolley stop nearby, which makes it convenient to access public transit for getting around the city. The trolley system in San Diego is well-connected and can take you to various locations, including Seaport Village, Old Town, and Balboa Park. From the hotel, you can easily catch the trolley to visit these key destinations:
Overall Convenience: The hotel’s location in Mission Valley makes it a bit removed from the immediate coastline but still offers a lot of conveniences with public transportation. You’ll find it easy to access most of San Diego’s main attractions without needing a car. The proximity to the trolley system is a big advantage, and you’ll be able to travel to many of the city's highlights with relative ease. However, if you want to explore the beach areas, you might need to take a bus or trolley combined with a short walk or rideshare, as the hotel is not directly on the coast.
Other Nearby Areas: If you’ve stayed at places like the Bahia and Shelter Island before, you may miss the closer proximity to the beach that those locations offer. However, with the convenience of public transit from Town and Country, you won’t miss out on much. You might also consider visiting nearby areas like Mission Bay, which is only a short drive or trolley ride away, for a similar relaxed, coastal vibe.
Recommendation: If you're looking for a comfortable hotel with good amenities, a relaxing atmosphere, and easy access to public transport, the Town and Country Hotel is a solid choice. It offers everything you need for a stress-free trip without a car. The trolley system makes it easy to reach Seaport Village, Balboa Park, Old Town, and other attractions. Just be mindful that the hotel is not right next to the beach, so you’ll need to take a little extra time to get there, either by public transit or rideshare.
