Located in the center of Tenjin, Fukuoka, Suikyo Tenmangu Shrine is a small shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, known as the god of learning. Its calm atmosphere makes you forget the hustle and bustle of the city, and its beautiful vermilion-painted torii gates and main hall give visitors a sense of peace.
The name comes from the legend that Michizane lamented seeing his own reflection in the river. The shrine grounds are filled with votive plaques and amulets for academic success, and many exam candidates visit the shrine.
Conveniently located just a few minutes walk from Tenjin Station. It's the perfect place to stop by between shopping and sightseeing. We recommend this shrine as a new healing spot for tourists in Fukuoka.
